Summary:

Y.O.U. is seeking an experienced Human Resources leader for the role of Executive Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the C.E.O., this person will be responsible for facilitating an excellent workplace culture, recruiting and retaining a highly talented staffing body of 70-100 individuals, ensuring the execution of a high-quality professional learning strategy and will be accountable for excellence in the delivery of all Human Resources functions. 

The ED of HR will lead our efforts in organizational culture, equity and cultural competence from recruitment to training to staff evaluation. This person will oversee HR compliance, compensation, and benefits for a diverse staff that consists of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees as well as AmeriCorps/VISTA service members and fellowship trainees. They will serve as a strategic member of the Executive Team, setting the vision and executing strategies for an efficient and thriving workplace and ensuring that Y.O.U. is an anti-racist and equitable organization for all staff. 


Details of Role and Significant Segments:

1. Workplace Excellence & Culture - 40%:

  1. Responsible for leading and facilitating processes that support and drive a positive and equitable company culture, and assessments of that culture, including an annual survey.
  2. Oversees employee compensation and benefits, ensuring adherence to budget and competitiveness with the market.
  3. Addresses and oversees employee issues - conflict resolution, performance, and other issues as they arise. 
  4. Manages all HR compliance issues, ensuring a compliant workplace with consistent and fair execution of all personnel policies..
  5. Ensures compliance with all agency requirements (DCFS, AmeriCorps, IDHS, various grants), state and federal bodies (DOL, State of Illinois), and employment laws regarding 1099s, exempt vs nonexempt status, ACA, and workers compensation.
  6. Leads the creation and execution of all staff gatherings including retreats, staff meetings, broad communications, and staff committees as necessary

2. Talent Management - 30%:

  • Oversees all staff structure, recruitment strategies, hiring timelines, and general staffing needs.
  • Partners with other organization leaders in ensuring consistent and strategic staffing structures in support of high quality programming and operations. 
  • Facilitates the Vision and execution of org-wide performance management system including tying goals to the strategic plan, training and staff development, and periodic evaluation for accountability

3. Organizational Strategy - 20%:

  • Partner with CEO and Executive Team on a vision of workplace excellence for Y.O.U., including staff professional development, performance management and workplace culture.
  • Define value proposition for various roles and ensure competitiveness in the market
  • Liaise with the Board of Directors, external partners, and organizational committees to steer the vision

4. General Management 10%:

  • Supervises and supports the Talent Manager, Human Resources Manager and AmeriCorps Program Manager as well as the organization’s IT Coordinator. 
  • Leads internal, organization-wide communications strategy including developing formal processes and channels for sharing critical information with all staff
  • Serves as the organizational lead in support of the Y.O.U. Governance Committee. 
  • Participate in organization-wide events


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned, talented leader with proven experience leading an HR function. 

The ideal candidate will have:

Required Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor's Degree. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an HR leadership role, preferably with significant non-profit experience. 
  • A strategic and positive mindset with a demonstrated passion for managing people and workplaces.
  • A self-reflective and positive disposition with a focus on continuous growth and improvement for self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a positive, results-oriented organizational culture.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities; experience leading teams and supervising multiple employees.
  • Evidence of a professional commitment to equity work and socially responsible organizations.
  • An entrepreneurial approach and ability to build systems and drive towards clarity in a fast-moving, dynamic environment. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in building relationships and driving work across departments.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • An ability to gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data focused on people systems. 
  • A Graduate Degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Certification in SHRM or another professional HR organization.


Salary & Benefits:

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Hours: Full-time flexible schedule with some weekend & evening hours

The Organization: Founded in 1971, Y.O.U. is an Evanston-based non-profit that partners with families, schools, and the community to provide academic, social, and emotional support to close the opportunity gap and prepare all youth for post-secondary and life success. Each year, Y.O.U. provides over 1,600 youth across 11 school sites with free, holistic, out-of-school support, including afterschool and summer learning programs, mental health counseling, and experiential learning through partnerships
