PROGRAM DIRECTOR

EXEMPT POSITION

Girls on the Run (“GOTR”) is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, confident and healthy using an experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event.   The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and open up while also encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness the inner strength that they possess.  Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today.


A 501(c)3, Girls on the Run – DC (“GOTR-DC”) is one of over 200 independent councils of Girls on the Run International.  The GOTR-DC program has grown from serving 9 girls on one team in ward 3 in fall 2006 to serving over 2,200 girls in all 8 wards of the District in fiscal year 2018 with expansion into Prince George’s County, MD.


POSITION SUMMARY


The GOTR-DC Program Director is responsible for executing, developing, and ensuring successful quality GOTR programming throughout all eight wards of DC and Prince George’s County.  Responsibilities include strategic planning, site recruitment and retention, program development and evaluation. The Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director (“ED”), supervises the Program Coordinator and any Program Interns, and works collaboratively with all other staff.


POSITION PROFILE


Strategic Planning

·      Analyze the market for the council’s programs within the designated territory

·       Identify growth opportunities and priorities in program delivery

·      Work with the ED to develop, track, and execute the strategic plan as it pertains to programming 


Program and Site Management

·      Develop positive, effective, working relationships with school boards, administration, and community youth development organizations 

·      Lead efforts on targeting and implementing new program sites; meet with schools/sites interested in partnering with GOTR-DC 

·      Oversee online program registration and communicate results

·      Oversee all program logistics such as calendar, materials, and marketing and ensure accuracy

·      Develop and provide ongoing coach and parent resources, education, and support

·      Assist ED in the development of the programming budget

·      Oversee all Race Planner database data as it pertains to programming, ensuring accuracy and utilization of all Race Planner functions

·      Implement and oversee all forms of program evaluation. Work with ED to analyze results and develop and implement next steps.

·      Assess organizational need and capacity for volunteers

·      Develop and implement volunteer recruitment and management strategies

·      Ensure volunteer coaches and sites are equipped and supported to successfully promote and implement GOTR programs

Communications

·      Oversee all Program communications

·       Work collaboratively with communications committee to establish targeted communications plan for schools, volunteers, and the community

 

Organizational Support

·      Oversee the measurement and communication of program outcomes and impacts

·      Prepare all program related seasonal and annual data reports 

·      Track, analyze, and secure data necessary for grant writing, position papers, and evaluative outcomes

·      Supervise, evaluate, orient, and guide Program staff including Program Coordinator and any interns


REQUIRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS


·      Must display a personal passion for the mission of Girls on the Run 

·      BS or BA required, preferably in youth development, public health, education, or social work. Masters degree, along with 2 years of experience working within a non-profit organization or school systems, preferred.

·      Experience in creating, executing, and measuring outcomes of strategic plans 

·      Adept in evaluation and data management and interpretation 

·      Ability to interact effectively with community leaders, school personnel, volunteers, parents, children and program funders

·      Excellent project management, communication, collaboration and team participation skills

·      Experience in staff supervision and management

·      Outstanding relationship building skills and communication skills

·      Ability to respond quickly and empathically and generate win-win solutions

·      Ability to travel within assigned territory, using a personal vehicle and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

This position is 40 hours a week with opportunities for remote working hours and including retirement, vacation and health benefits. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.  Day-time and some evening/weekend hours are required.  This job description materially represents the duties and responsibilities of this position.
