Who we are:

Nanak’s Kitchen seeks to provide natural, and where possible, organic foods to those who are Food Insecure at this time in our history. Nanak’s Kitchen is part of a larger organization (Guru Ram Das Ashram) which serves to uplift and empower people through education, experience, and connection. We seek to heal the mind and body through the science of kundalini yoga and the teachings of Sikh Dharma, and to provide the nourishing experience of a natural lifestyle within a flourishing sustainable community.

As part of this approach, at this time, in our history, we are in the process of creating a Food Relief program. Your initial responsibilities are to provide and execute the fund raising /grant writing strategies that will help to bring this program to life.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Initially, you will work closely with the hunger relief program which is just being launched. Over time, you’ll work with other aspects of our community. You’ll work closely with the President and the Advisory Board to:

·      Create and execute fund raising programs

·      Write grants in the small to moderate range initially

Fund Raising:

We are seeking an experienced fund-raiser committed to our mission who values cultivating a culture of philanthropy through relationships, communications, special events, fund raising activities. Your role may include:

·      Developing with the Advisory Board, a fund raising strategy and plan for building multi-year campaign for capital and operating needs.

·      Manage and organize activities to raise funds or otherwise solicit and gather monetary donations or other gifts for an organization.

·      Administrative work managing expenses, creating budgets,

Grant Writing and Management

Manage all activities related to procuring funding through grant writing. You’ll work with the president and the food relief program managers, to draft letters of inquiry, write grant proposals, complete the submission process, and follow through with grant reporting. Your role will also include:

·      Write well-organized, compelling proposal drafts that follow the requirements of the funder and submit for review to the President, adhering to timelines/deadlines throughout the process

·      Secure all required supplemental documentation, including letters of support and budgets

·      Manage online grant applications and grant reporting. Gather relevant documentation, obtain required narratives from program leaders, and submit.

Requirements and Skills

The candidate must possess the following:

·      Experience writing grants and performing fund raising duties

·      Experience with nonprofit development appeal and fund raising

·      Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and positive can-do attitude

·      Respect for diversity of opinion, experience, and background

·      Ability to effectively work on several projects simultaneously, maintaining superb interpersonal skills under pressure, using excellent judgment, and producing high quality products within tight time constraints.

. An advancement/development professional with experience building a giving campaign. 

·      Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, and Excel, and ability to learn online grant submission systems

Employment Type:

This is a 20 hour per week part-time hourly position to develop into full-time employment. Wage commensurate with experience.
