The Center for Family Representation, Inc., (CFR), an innovative law and policy organization, has openings for Litigation Supervisors in its Queens and Manhattan Family Defense practices. CFR’s mission is to ensure that every family that can remain safely together has the opportunity to do so: we provide legal and social work assistance to parents whose children are at risk of foster care placement, we train more than 500 professionals each year in the city, state, and around the country, and we advocate at the city, state and national level for policies that promote parent engagement and family preservation. CFR has been the primary family defense provider to indigent parents in Manhattan Family Court since 2007 and in Queens Family Court since 2011. Every year, CFR serves more than 3,000 families in New York City.

In 2015, CFR expanded its practice to provide additional legal and social work services to parents in immigration, housing, public benefits and criminal defense matters. Collectively, these additional holistic services make up our Home for Good Initiative. In 2019, CFR will also launch a Juvenile Justice Project to bring our model to youth criminally charged in family court.

Under the supervision of borough Co-Directors, the Litigation Supervisor’s primary responsibility will be to supervise 4-5 staff attorneys of varying degrees of experience who work in interdisciplinary teams with social work, family advocate, parent advocate and paralegal staff to represent parents in Article 10 and Termination of Parental Rights Proceedings. Litigation Supervisors are responsible for helping attorneys develop mastery in all aspects of litigation as well as in reinforcing and building upon skills and values introduced in initial and ongoing trainings. Litigation Supervisors write professional development reviews, periodically coordinate attorney workgroup meetings and from time to time, develop practice materials useful for staff at CFR. Litigation Supervisors also work with family court staff and staff from other agencies, including ACS, to address substantive and operational issues that attend a large court based practice.

The Litigation Supervisor will work with other managers and directors at CFR to inform decisions on strategic planning and overall program development and improvement for the entire agency: in these areas, activities may include administration, interviewing potential candidates, training, policy work, development, progressive discipline, fellowships, and appeals.

Eligibility & Qualifications:  Candidates must have at least 4 to 6 years experience in Article 10/TPR family court proceedings. Prior supervisory experience is required. Experience with organizational or program development, training and ancillary proceedings (i.e. custody) are all desirable. Candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated teamwork skills and an aptitude for problem solving and management of staff. Salary is commensurate with experience; excellent benefits package. Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply. CFR is an EOE.
