The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) provides online and on campus degree and certificate programs that meet the needs of adults who are looking to finish or transition into a bachelor’s degree, earn a master’s degree or certificate in a specialized field, advance in the workplace, or change careers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Director of the Online Liberal Studies B.A. program, the Experiential Learning Assistant will:

  •  Support students in the online B.A. in Liberal Studies with academic planning and the fulfillment of the experiential learning requirement
  • Assist with advisement activities for new and continuing students in Liberal Studies; provide information to students about experiential learning pathways (PLA 300 or INT 450)
  • Provide assistance to Liberal Studies majors through the process of planning for and completing PLA 300 or INT 450, in which students create portfolios to document either prior learning or concurrent, site-based learning
  • Coordinate with program staff, Advisors, Career Services, and the Experiential Learning Manager, as needed, to help students identify and secure INT 450 approval for internships or workplace-based learning projects    
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Some familiarity with CUNY First, Degree Works, and Blackboard systems
  • Previous experience mentoring or advising students  
  • Strong student support orientation, patience, and personable nature. Enthusiasm for working with students, particularly in a virtual environment, is critical.
  • Organizational and analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to follow established processes
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding, and complex work environment
  • Ability to carry out complex assignments and adapt to changing situations and priorities 
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Excellent online communication skills and the ability to respond to student, faculty, and staff enquiries in a timely manner

Note: While the Experiential Learning Assistant/College Assistant position is currently remote, the selected finalist is expected to have access to a laptop/computer, internet and phone access to perform most job duties and responsibilities. Upon return to normal campus operations, this position will transition to our physical office located at 119 W 31st Street, New York, NY 10001.
