For almost 50 years, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Primary Responsibilities

The Communications + Brand Manager will support the growth and expansion of the Covenant House International (CHI) brand strategy, brand vision and value proposition for the near and long term. The successful candidate will fundamentally improve workflow with internal and external stakeholders to meet our brand goals and align communications across the Covenant House federation. Reporting to the SVP, Communications and Brand, this role is in support of the team creating and delivering ethical and inspiring content that is fully integrated with teams charged with delivering an enriching experience to our donors and prospective supporters.

Core Functions of this Role:


  • Support the creation and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan for both our internal team and external audiences including media, influencers, and internal teams at CHI and Covenant House sites
  • Manage the Covenant House brand and its relevance to our audience segments to drive engagement and increase commitment to youth homelessness as a crisis and a cause worthy of support
  • Develop and execute innovative strategies to grow awareness and perception of and engagement with Covenant House across multiple channels
  • Identify new tools for the establishment of a weighted system for media impressions and lead the tracking and reporting of our audience reach
  • Work with team to establish an internal brand ROI dashboard to demonstrate meaningful improvement to the CHI brand and prove branding effort ROI 
  • Analyze competitor and customer insights 


  • Support the creation and implementation of a roadmap for the centralization of all CHI marketing, content, and communications functions
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive public awareness strategy including paid and earned TV media 
  • Assist with the planning and procurement of photo, video, and other media assets from Covenant House sites
  • Assist with the planning and execution of written stories and testimonials from Covenant House sites
  • Work with teams at CHI and Covenant House sites to expand and update all materials and content in the Communications + Brand Resource Center 
  • Support the advancement of our social media strategy on current channels: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and emerging channels to reach new audiences, with a focus on younger and more diverse audiences


  • Maintain and revise internal playbooks, external style guides, and brand guidelines for all stakeholders
  • Manage process for approval of all initiative campaign logos and messaging to align with CHI’s brand system 
  • Coordinate with teams leading the planning and execution of design and media actions on all channels, including online and social media
  • Manage timelines and outputs for the design, content, and promotional collateral requested of the Communications + Brand team
  • Prepare postmortem analysis for initiative campaigns led by the Communications + Brand team
  • Serve as lead for help desk for brand liaisons at Covenant House sites
  • Support social media writing, editing, and approval as needed


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of brand identity and brand positioning in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience managing or supporting the management of a brand across multiple markets
  • Strategic thinker able to identify long-term opportunities and trends
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • Strong communication skills
  • Project management experience, with a solid understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Commitment to approaching the role as a team player with a collaborative spirit
  • Regularly leverage innovative new approaches to content development 
  • Ability to manage internal teams and vendor partners to ensure timely and accurate execution of collateral
  • Be approachable, responsive, flexible and available
  • Consistently work to improve the manner in which projects are managed and coordinated within the agency
  • Actively participate on creative and execution project teams comprised of other development team members
  • Work on and/or lead special projects as assigned by department leadership
  • At least three (3) years of brand management, brand marketing, or related strategic communications experience

Travel Requirements

  • You may be required to travel for this position, up to 5% 
  • This position is based in New York City, but will be remote for the foreseeable future
