BLCK VC is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization built for and by Black venture investors dedicated to increasing the representation of Black investors within venture capital now and for generations to come. Through our educational programs, networking opportunities, and national chapters, BLCK VC provides the tools and connections to accelerate the careers of Black investors in venture capital. To do this, we implement programs such as Breaking into Venture, Black Venture Institute, host educational and community events, and work with venture firms to diversify their investors and pipelines. BLCK VC is currently active in the following regions/markets: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and Atlanta

 

BLCK VC is seeking a self-driven, passionate, and highly competent full-time Program Officer to lead the planning and execution of our programs, including our Black Venture Institute (BVI), Breaking into Venture (BiV), and BLCK VC Scout Network Programs. This individual would work closely with the BLCK VC Leadership Team to develop and execute new initiatives and programs, improve on existing programs, and engage with BLCK VC Sponsors and Partners,

co-lead BLCK VC initiatives, create resources that support Black investors and entrepreneurs,

 

This role would be a great fit for anyone interested in joining a quickly-growing organization that’s meaningfully making venture capital more inclusive. Although this person will work closely with the BLCK VC leadership team, they will also have autonomy to lead programs, manage relevant partnerships, engage with program participants, and oversee program budgets.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Cultivates a pipeline of aspiring and existing investors for BLCK VC programs.
  • Contributes to the design, delivery, and training of workshops and webinars; serves as primary facilitator for the programs they’re managing.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for program participants and prospective applicants
  • Identifies, recruits, and engages panelists, speakers, and mentors.
  • Manages relevant partnerships with other funders, media, and other organizations for BLCK VC programs.
  • Manages logistical coordination and planning of programs and events alongside Committees and Chapters at BLCK VC.
  • Develops and deploys initiatives to measure the effectiveness of BLCK VC programs. Spearheads annual report alongside BLCK VC leadership.
  • Represents BLCK VC occasionally at conferences or in new business development activities.
  • Collaborates with the BLCK VC leadership team to develop and launch new initiatives to serve our community.
  • Spearheads other administrative, logistical, and programmatic work as necessary to enable excellent program delivery.
  • Support branding and public communications efforts connected to programs, including our newsletter, social media, and events.

 

 

 

Professional qualifications:

  • BA/BS required
  • 5+ years of related work experience in a nonprofit organization, public sector, and/or academic institution with direct program management responsibilities; familiarity with venture capital, tech, and/or startup ecosystem broadly
  • Highly proficient in the use of MS Office and a high degree of digital fluency using cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRMs, team collaboration tools (such as Asana), and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day-today work
  • Project management skills and familiarity with project and data management tools
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with an ability to articulate and synthesize information in a compelling and organized manner; ability to succeed and thrive in an environment with competing and changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, cross-functional work environment with multiple stakeholders and partners
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Highly adaptable and comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity
