Return to Freedom (RTF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1991. Return to Freedom is dedicated to the freedom and diversity of wild horses and burros through sanctuary, education, advocacy, and conservation, while enriching the human spirit through direct experience with the natural world.
Our desired start date is 7/20/21, however we can be somewhat flexible. We are looking for an outgoing, organized and creative self-starter to support our communications, advocacy and development work. We are looking for the applicant who would like to develop this position and grow within the organization for the long term. This position can be done remotely, however would require periodic on site projects and meetings for brief as well as more frequent or extended periods of time depending on project. This person can regularly update our website on Wordpress, as well as manage our Facebook pages, Twitter and Instagram, work with advocacy and development staff to create social media content, campaigns and edit videos. Photography and videography skills are essential. Writing skills, graphic creation and video editing are key skills, as is fluency in Mac and PC, internet-based programs and applications – especially social media platforms. A knowledge of horses, horse behavior and interest / experience in wildlife conservation or wild horse advocacy are helpful. Applicable educational background, experience or a combination of education and experience may include communications, marketing, graphic design, website design, public relations, political Science, journalism, English and library science.

Coordinate with advocacy and development staff on web / social media content
Provide photo and video content, including editing
Update web content.
Create and publish engaging website and social media content.
Gather collateral for ENewsletter content and create ENEWS as directed by Communications Manager
Edit existing video for use on website, social media.
Create graphics for use online posts
Manage posts and responses to Facebook, Instagram and twitter
Manage Next Gen Blog and webpage
Manage all RTF photography archives
Track all RTF media - post on website, file in digital and hard copy archives
Create posts & social media campaigns, promoting targeted letters to Congress, news items as directed
Promoting programs, events, store on ENEWS, web and social media posts as needed
Other items as assigned.
Interest in wild horse & conservation issues
Fully fluent in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.
Proficient in Photoshop and video editing software.
Proficiency in Wordpress.
Working knowledge of HTML and web publishing.

A. VACATION: Vacation benefits do not accrue during the first three months of employment. Beginning in the employee's fourth month of employment the employee will earn 1.54 hours of paid vacation for each full pay period of employment. After the completion of an employee's fourth year of employment, the accrual rate will be 3.08 hours of paid vacation per pay period. Vacation accrual may not exceed two times an employee's current annual entitlement. Once this maximum is reached, all further accruals will cease. The employee will not become eligible for any additional time in the subsequent year except to the extent that the prior vacation time has been used. B. PAID SICK LEAVE
An eligible employee who, on or after July 1, 2015, works in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment is entitled to paid sick leave as described below.
Eligible employees will receive the greater of 40 hours or 5 days of paid sick leave at the beginning of each year (or year of employment). This benefit does not accrue but rather is "frontloaded." Unused sick time will not be carried over from year to year. At the beginning of each year, employees will be granted the full 40 hours or 5 days of paid sick leave. Sick leave cannot be taken in increments of less than 2 hours.
Eligible employees are entitled to use available paid sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. The rate of pay shall be the employee's hourly wage. The actual dollar amount that you receive may vary according to your compensation plan.
Unused sick leave will not be paid out at the end of employment. If an employee is separated and rehired by the employer within one year from the date of separation, previously unused paid sick days shall be reinstated and the employee shall be entitled to use those previously unused paid sick days and to receive additional paid sick days upon rehiring.
This leave may run concurrently with the federal Family Medical Leave Act and/or any other leave where permitted by state and federal law. Please refer to the Employee Handbook for more details.
C. GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE
On the first day of the month after you complete 60 days of continuous employment, you will be eligible to enroll in our group health insurance plan. We currently offer the Anthem Blue Cross "Silver PPO" to eligible employees. You may request a copy of the Anthem Blue Cross summary of features to review. We pay 100% percent of the monthly premium for employee coverage. You may also be eligible to enroll your spouse and dependent children at your expense.
D. DENTAL INSURANCE
Eligible full-time employees may enroll in a single, a single plus one dependent or a family contract on the first of the month following ninety days of employment.
Information and enrollment forms may be obtained from your supervisor.
To assist you with the cost of this insurance, RTF pays a portion of a single contract. You are responsible for paying the balance of a single contract and any dependent coverage through payroll deduction.
A booklet containing the details of the plan and the eligibility requirements may be obtained from the bookkeeper.

E. VISION CARE PLAN
Eligible full-time employees may enroll in this plan on the first of the month following ninety days of employment.

F. RETIREMENT PLAN
This plan is intended to be used in combination with your Social Security benefits and personal resources to provide you with supplemental income upon retirement.
You can obtain a copy of the Summary Plan Description which contains the details of the plan including eligibility and benefit provisions from your supervisor. In the event of any conflict in the description of any plan, the official plan documents, which are available for your review, shall govern.
