We at BAYAC AmeriCorps are currently looking for new members to join our team as Lead Teachers at the Learning Hub at Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center to support their Early Childhood Education Program (ECE) Pre-TK and TK (transitional kindergarten) programming. This is an in-person service position and will be working with mostly 3-5 year olds. The Infant/Toddler/Preschool Teacher works under the supervision of the Head Teacher and in collaboration with other teachers to design, implement and evaluate and culturally and developmentally appropriate program for children ages 3 months to 5 years. What is BAYAC AmeriCorps?

BAYAC AmeriCorps collaborates with over 20 agencies in schools and community-based organizations to serve youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time (40 hours/week) term of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. This is a paid work experience program for folks who are looking to advance their career working with youth and in the field of education. We are hiring folks to serve as after-school educators, classroom aides, academic coaches & mentors, tutors, health educators, case managers, and enrichment activities coordinators.

Position duties may include:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children
  • Establish predictable, consistent care-giving routines, implementing family style at each meal
  • Nurture social-emotional growth and socialization (Teaching Pyramid Training desired)
  • Interacts with children in a warm and positive manner and is able to develop their trust and rapport
  • Foster cognitive development, language development, and communication with children on daily basis
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs and interests of each child
  • Provide educational activities for children across the general areas of gross and fine motor, imitation, social responsiveness, exploration, self-help, competence, and language, emotional and perceptual cognitive development using daily/weekly activity plans or individual program plans
  • Prepare daily learning areas that meet the standards of ITERS, CLASS and Project Approach
  • Develops and provides inclusive, developmentally and culturally appropriate activities
  • Design the display for children’s work and rotate displays on a regular basis
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families, children and coworkers
  • Serve as the primary contact person for parents on matters relating to their child’s development and progress in the preschool
  • Observe and conduct children’s observation through DRDP’s/Portfolios and discuss with staff and parents
  • Record meal count at each serving point; 3 times per day
  • Develop, maintain, and review a daily system of classroom communication to staff and parents to ensure clarity and consistency
  • Lead the classroom teacher assistant, floater and volunteers in creating a warm, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere for the children to be encouraged to learn and grow
  • Create, support and promote a team environment by encouraging and facilitating problem solving 
  • Works with classroom staff to set goals and implement methods for improving classroom functioning
  • Prepare a safe indoor and outdoor environment
  • Attend and participate in weekly training and cohort meetings

Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • At least 17 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) and commit to a 8-month term of service
  • Successful completion of TB test and Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire)
  • Prefer bilingual in Spanish/English, not required
  • Associate Teacher or Teacher Permit 
  • AA degree in ECE, and a minimum of 2-3 years of full-time experience in a classroom setting
