Summary

The Advisor, Regional Controller, Global Finance is responsible for the financial process development and management of the Save the Children US International programs (SCUSI). At the onset, this role will focus primarily on the finance process deliverables under SCUSI project. This would include, amongst others, review and development of standard operating procedures for both country branch office and home offices. The role will be instrumental in preparing country branch office for initial operations. For the second phase, this role will transition into management of the financial accounting, reporting and other financial processes for SCUSI. This role will review SCI monthly financial information sent, account reconciliations, and liaise with other units on a regular basis. This also includes communications and dialogue with counterparts across Save the Children to facilitate efforts for accurate and timely financial information.

 

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Phase 1 (January 2023 to November 2023 – estimated):

Project management support (100%)

  • Liaise with finance stakeholders to provide inputs on the design of project, and facilitate review and preparations of deliverables requested by project team.
  • Prepare periodic update emails, outstanding items and next steps.
  • Prepare, update, develop and publish operating procedures for the different aspects of SCUSI, including processes linked to other teams.
  • Provide technical assistance to country offices and other stakeholders during the establishment of the first SCUSI countries
  • Serve as key stakeholder to receive and review information from the project team, and travel for workshops as needed.
  • Ensure that transition to normal operations is smooth by keeping informed, and sharing information with other departments and divisions,
  • Assist in development of reporting protocols to ensure proper attention and monitoring to the finances of branch offices.
  • Learn and document local country office regulatory requirements that the office will have to adhere under SCUSI.
  • Attend finance workstream meetings (with or on behalf of global finance colleagues) and coordinate the accomplishment of related deliverables
  • Participate in the testing of solutions, and provide feedback for improvements.

Phase 2 and continuing (after completion of Phase 1):

General Accounting: SCI (60%)

  • Perform month end close checks for SCUSI office (s) and liaise with country staff.
  • Review and process SCUSI transactions, which includes data feed and related entries. The data feed includes entries within the financial packet from SCUSI country office(s).
  • Review clearing of SCUSI balance sheet accounts including but not limited to intercountry and due to/due from home office accounts.
  • Update the general ledger monthly for all expenditure and other accounts related to SCUSI.
  • Review funding requests from country offices.

Financial Reconciliation and Analysis (30%)

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly and year-end reconciliation with SCUSI, including resolution of reconciling items.
  • Identify and process any necessary adjustment as result of award analysis
  • Coordinate monitoring checklist and any recommended actions.
  • Coordinate the submission of supporting documents and analysis for statutory audit for SCUSI related items.

Training and Technical assistance (TA) (10%)

  • Participate in the development and delivery of trainings to team members and other stakeholders
  • Assist in development of local finance policies and procedures
  • Monitor the country office adherence to local finance policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance to countries on matters including local statutory reporting
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate the organization in the market

 

 Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Requires working experience in the field of financial accounting and management in countries outside of the United States
  • Requires learned knowledge, including USG funding experience and knowledge working in general ledger and financial systems
  • Attention to detail to oversee and manage multiple projects across divisions
  • Prompt/ accurate delivery of information, and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Keeps manager informed of important issues; builds effective relationships within peer workgroup
  • Financial Management and Financial management systems experience required
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to functional area
  • Requires little or no supervision on routine work assignments, but may require supervision to review work progress and results on non-routine work assignments
  • General regulations exist, but incumbent must interpret the regulations. The "what" and "how" are provided, but must always interpret the "how"
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education background in finance or accounting
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced and matrixed organization
  • Communication skills to collaborate within Save the Children, across the Save the Children Alliance

 

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
