The Long Island Community Partnership Manager will help create and lead the Conservancy’s Long Island Community Partnership – to be established in 2021 under the Manager’s leadership – in order to engage with key representatives of community interests across Nassau and Suffolk Counties with respect to conservation opportunities and challenges. The Community Partnership Manager will develop, deepen, amplify, and leverage community relationships; and serves as a spokesperson on behalf of the Conservancy to public and private audiences helping elevate the profile and public understanding and appreciation of the Conservancy and its work.

The Nature Conservancy seeks a motivated and resilient self-starter to lead where there is no “play book” as the Community Partnership and this leadership position are new. The Long Island Community Partnership Manager should be comfortable establishing and maintaining collaborative, authentic relationships with partners from across Long Island’s geographies, business and public sectors, community groups, socio-economic classes, and ethnic groups. They should be comfortable appreciating the role of science and data to help inform local decision making. They should be curious, as well as innovative and creative in their approach. They should be motivated by the purpose of creating a Long Island where people and nature thrive together.


 Location

The Long Island Community Partnership Manager can be based out of either the Conservancy’s Cold Spring Harbor or East Hampton office, and the position will require time in both, as well as considerable time in the field spent engaging with Partnership members and community representatives.

 

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental policy, management or other relevant field and 5 years of community engagement, government relations or corporate sector experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Experience engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Experience in facilitation, communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical and project management experience, experience developing, directing, and managing multiple complex projects in an unstructured environment, understanding small group dynamics while upholding strategic program goals.
  • Negotiation and decision-making experience.
