Position:   Assistant Camp Director


Primary Role: To further the mission of Garrett Williamson by assisting the Camp Director in developing and delivering a ten-week long day camp program that is safe, fun, and age-appropriate for summer campers, ages five to fifteen, to reflect Garrett Williamson’s commitment to providing quality educational, environmental and recreational programs to all families regardless of financial means.


Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director

Essential Job Functions:                                                               

­ Assist the Camp Director in managing daily operations by supporting seasonal staff, overseeing camper safety, and monitoring the delivery of special programs.

­ Manage and maintain camp records, including but not limited to schedules, rosters, inventory, pre-employment requirements and training materials.

­ Assist the Camp Director in recruiting and enrolling campers while overseeing the appropriate grouping of campers by age and other characteristics.

­ Assist the Camp Director in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating camp staff.

­ Assist the Camp Director with the daily business and financial operations of camp.

­ Update and maintain digital and print marketing materials such as social media, flyers and brochures.

­ Ensure the Camp is in compliance with ACA standards, and organize necessary documents to maintain accreditation. 

­ Participate in all camp special events and assist with organization-wide events as needed.

­ Assume responsibilities of the Camp Director when Director is off-site or off duty.

­ Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, families, campers, vendors and the community.

Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:

­ BA or BS in related human services field. Additional experience in education and/or recreational programming that reflects the camp’s population is desirable.

­ Proficiency in data management, word processing and computer software is preferred.

­ Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements of the Essential Job Functions: This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds, listen to others, observe others’ actions and take corrective actions when necessary, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals. It also requires the physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
