About the position

AFS partners with corporations, foundations, and governments around the world with an emphasis on ensuring that more people from diverse and underserved communities participate in and benefit from educational exchange programs and international education initiatives.

AFS is seeking a Program Manager for our global partnership with bp: the Net Zero Changemakers Initiative. Over the upcoming five years (2022-26), AFS & bp will partner to offer 5,000+ scholarships to teens across the world to participate in a number of programs ranging from local workshops, to all virtual programs, to global cohorts participating in four week, in-person Net Zero Academies. The Program Manager will help oversee all aspects of the partnership and help manage the programs across the globe. As part of this, you will also gain knowledge of AFS’s program operations and virtual program offers - Global You Adventurer and Global You Changemaker, the latter developed in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania - and assist the Programs Team to deliver these as well, as needed. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious professional to help manage and grow a key partnership and initiatives for a great organization with a powerful mission, global footprint, and enthusiastic alumni and volunteers. We are looking for someone who will bring energy and determination to the role, nurture existing relationships, support the development of new ones, and help grow a core part of our program portfolio.

  • Assistance with managing global program operations for our sponsored programs with bp, including program planning, communications, promotion, selection, and execution, among other responsibilities

  • Working closely with AFS organizations participating in these sponsored programs, including in Brazil, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Mexico, South Africa, and the USA, and expanding to additional countries
  • Assistance with content creation for AFS social media, mailing lists, and newsletters
  • Collecting and analyzing data for program evaluations and annual reports

Requirements:

We are looking for the following in the ideal candidate:

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in managing corporate and foundation partnerships and programs at not-for-profit organizations, including experience leading project planning, recruitment campaigns, selection processes, program execution, evaluation, communications, report writing, etc. - the ideal candidate will have approximately five years of experience
  • A resourceful go-getter quickly able to grasp AFS’s systems and operations, including database, application, website, social media, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and intercultural sensitivity - we are a global organization and working at AFS means communicating across cultures on a daily basis
  • Fluent in English with strong writing skills (short-listed candidates may be asked to provide a writing sample)
  • Authorized to work in the USA as well as the ability and willingness to travel within the US and/or internationally, if and as needed; OR if not New York-based, the ability and willingness to travel to New York occasionally, if and as needed

The following are additional skills, experience, and qualities of interest to us:
