The Academy for Precision Learning is a K-12 independent school located in Seattle's University District. We serve students with and without special needs, with a focus on autism. APL provides a personally-tailored, academically rigorous program, with a focus on social skills development. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Manager.

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing all human resources functions for the organization and working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and the Board to build and maintain human resources and operational practices that are consistent with and support the vision of APL. The Human Resources Manager provides oversight in the design, implementation, and sustaining of processes and policies that promote the quality and consistency of practice at APL, as well as implementing or supervising essential administrative functions of the organization.


• Lead comprehensive human resource strategy that promotes APL's culture and the recruitment and retention of high-quality 

personnel, including:

• Oversee human resources functions of the organization

• Write, implement, and communicate human resources policies and systems, in line with the strategy of the organization

• Provide human resources consultation and coaching to staff

• Oversee staff recruitment and hiring processes 

• Influences the Executive Director and leadership team on decision making regarding promotions and pay raises

• Leads the annual offer letter addendum process and salary negotiations 

• Handles all employee relations including leading investigations and making disciplinary decisions

• Oversee the implementation of organizational grievance process, including serving as a primary contact in critical or escalated 


• Gather, analyze, and report data related to staff retention, including exit interviews and annual staff surveys, to Executive 

Director and Board of Directors 

• Manage staff compensation and benefit package, working in collaboration with organizational leadership to ensure 

competitive offerings that support the recruitment and retention of high-quality personnel

• Supervise Office Manager in staff on-boarding, maintaining personnel files, and other administrative Human Resources tasks

• Facilitate processes and practices agency-wide that support APL's efficiency and effectiveness:

• Supervise the Office Manager and all information technology contractors

• Monitor compliance of all operational policies and processes against state and federal rules and laws

• Provide support to Heads of School in reviewing and developing school administration policies, including the annual 

academic calendar

• Support the admissions and enrollment process consistent with established policies

• Play a leadership role in the organization

• Collaboratively set organizational direction and strategy and problem solve big picture organizational questions with other 

members of the Leadership Team


• Passion for APL's mission of inclusion

• At least 4 years experience of progressive responsibility in human resources ideally in a school, nonprofit, or similar 


• Experience and knowledge designing and implementing non-profit internal controls and policies

• Experience managing all aspects of Human Resources, including: hiring and supervisory experience, performance 

management, conflict and grievance resolution, compensation and benefits, on-boarding, succession planning

• Able to see strategic big picture and build operational plans to support the mission and strategy of APL, while managing the 

details of day-to-day administrative tasks

• Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy and follow through

• Excellent customer service skills

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects within a dynamic work environment, and delegate tasks strategically

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate on a multi-disciplinary team

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Experience working with Microsoft Office, or demonstrated ability to learn new technology platforms

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred

• Fingerprint clearance through OSPI

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience with independent school business operations

• Experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis clinical management and business operations
