REPORTS TO: Vice President, Education and Program Initiative
JOB SUMMARY: The Quality Institute at United Hospital Fund, in partnership with key stakeholders, develops and promotes innovative quality improvement strategies to strengthen and spread best practices across the spectrum of health care settings. We tackle tough questions about how to define and assess quality, engage patients in improving services, and are developing the next generation of health care quality improvement leaders. The Program Manager will manage projects and engage in a full range of research, analysis, reporting, content production, and convening activities in support of the Quality Institute’s major initiatives and projects.
· Participates in the development and management of quality assessment and improvement initiatives consistent with the goals and priorities of the Quality Institute.
· Provides project management support, ensuring that projects are well-organized and activities remain on track. Organizes the completion of deliverables and ensures that all milestones and deliverables are met within specified timeframes. Reviews literature, conducts scans, develops data collection tools and other resources to facilitate project activities. Assists with the design and implementation of project evaluations and compiles results for reports, publications, and other purposes. Produces initial drafts of progress and final reports or other deliverables, as appropriate.
· With senior leadership from the Quality Institute, works extensively with external organizations, including health departments, trade associations, health care providers and plans, and clinical and other subject matter experts, to develop agendas, content, and resources for initiatives, meetings, and webinars.
· Assists teams of clinicians across health care settings, including outpatient clinics, acute care hospitals, and nursing homes in developing and implementing quality improvement activities.
· Provides technical assistance and program planning for project-specific meetings, teleconferences, and webinars – both internal and external – as well as larger convenings. Specific responsibilities include: scheduling and logistics, coordination with speakers and participants, preparing and coordinating meeting materials, making presentations, evaluating meetings, and other follow-up as needed.
· Contributes to presentations, publications, articles, and web content for internal and external audiences. Works closely with team members and UHF Communications staff on logistics for producing publications.
· Contributes to conceptualizing and preparing grant proposals for efforts by the UHF Quality Institute to seek external funding support. Reviews literature and evidence-based practices to develop project ideas and content.
· Assists in UHF grantmaking activities including development of RFPs and internal evaluations of grant applications. Works with UHF’s grants manager to assure that all grantee requirements are met as per UHF policies.
· Provides support as needed on all Quality Institute initiatives and projects and contributes to effective and efficient functioning of the Quality Institute team. Provides support on Program and Policy Initiatives as needed.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: Master's-level preparation (degree or substantial coursework) in health policy, public health, or administration, or related field; 3-5 years of professional experience in program development, management, evaluation or implementation research related to health care quality.
Knowledge and Ability: Strong written and oral communication skills; quantitative and qualitative analytic skills; and effective relationship-building and facilitation skills are essential. The ability to work independently as a project facilitator or leader and as part of a team are required. Excellent interpersonal skills; a mature and positive perspective, flexible, courteous, willing to learn new skills, and motivated to actively participate in a team-oriented environment. Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), superior project management and organizational skills, presentation skills, and attention to detail are also needed to succeed in this position.
