Destiny Middle School (DMS) is Green Dot Washington’s flagship campus located in Tacoma’s vibrant Eastside neighborhood. Destiny first opened its doors in August 2015 with a founding class of 6th grade students. Since then, Destiny has grown to a comprehensive middle school serving students in grades 6-8. Rainier Valley Leadership Academy Middle School (RVLAMS) is located in Seattle’s thriving Columbia City neighborhood. With this belief in mind, the Seattle Advisory Team, a group of parents, educators, community members and stakeholders, came together in 2014 to explore the possibility of bringing Green Dot’s model to the diverse Southeast Seattle community. RVLAMS opened its doors to a founding class of 6th grade students in August, 2017 and will now serve grades 6-7 for the 2018-19 school year.



OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking a mission-driven Instructional Aide (IA) that will provide one-on-one student support to join the team at Rainier Valley Leadership Academy Middle School or Destiny Middle School. Our ideal candidate is hard-working, entrepreneurial, and possesses a strong desire to foster high levels of academic achievement with academically underserved students. We are looking for team members who are passionate about middle school students and excited to become a member of a growing school community.


Green Dot IAs are committed to continuing their own learning and refining their practice to stay current in the field, ensuring a quality education for all.  IAs will participate in twice-weekly professional development and specialized cross-network professional development days; summer training; and various opportunities for professional development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a one-on-one instructional aide for a student receiving special education services in mainstream classrooms.
  • Discuss classroom learning activities with teacher/specialist to coordinate instructional efforts and to implement instructional programs.
  • Assist Academic Intervention Specialists in providing individual instruction.
  • Tutor or drill student following lesson plans in a variety of academic subjects to explain and/or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Lead student one-on-one in activities to enhance their academic and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide assistance to student through translation in their primary language.
  • Provide assistance to, participate with, or monitor student in activities such as physical exercises and/or classroom activities in order to create a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Assist in monitoring student’s academic and personal growth by carrying out assessments and completing reports to teachers and families.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure student gets the support he or she needs to find academic and personal success at school.
  • Correct student work such as printing, writing, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic exercises, etc., of classroom and/or homework assignments, computer, record scores and return to student.
  • Operate a variety of office machines and/or instructional equipment such as, copy machine, typewriter, computer, laminator, telephone, video cassette recorder, etc.
  • Perform a variety of classroom associated clerical work, such as typing, sorting , filing, keeping accurate records, setting up and maintaining file folders, recording attendance, and completing forms and applications.
  • Prepare various teaching aids and materials such as charts, graphs, and other related items using such methods as typing, duplicating, collating, stapling and laminating.
  • Assist in classroom organizing activities such as displaying educational materials, preparing bulletin boards, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional needs, creating an orderly and clean classroom environment.
  • Observe and report significant student behavior, behavioral patterns, and/or problems to the teacher/specialist. Implement behavior management programs for student as designated by certificated staff.
  • Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed student: may administer prescribed medication in accordance with established school procedure.
  • May call parents to arrange appointments, to provide approved information about school or student, at the direction or concurrence of the teacher/specialist.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
  • Assist with discipline of student in accordance with school policy.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Demonstrate confidence, tact and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
  • Execute special projects and duties outside of primary teaching responsibility as assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and working with students with Autism preferred
  • Successful experience leading activities for youth
  • Strong skills in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written forums
  • Ability to work as a member of multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent intrapersonal skills
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Any other combination or training of experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered, however, experience cannot substitute for the above educational requirements.

COMPENSATION:
