TITLE: Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships


LOCATION: CSC, Silicon Valley 

REPORTS TO: VP, Philanthropic Partnerships


The Associate Director, Strategic Partnerships will cultivate and secure major gifts working out of the Silicon Valley ADL office. He/She will build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective foundation, corporate and individual donors from the San Francisco and Silicon Valley area, as well as Seattle and other California locations. 


• Design and implement a major gifts strategy aimed at retaining and securing new six figure gifts supporting ADL’s Center for Technology and Society (40-60% of time). 

• Design and implement a major gift strategy aimed at retaining and securing new six figure gifts supporting general operating expenses, and other ADL programs in the areas of education, law enforcement and advocacy (40-60% of time). 

• Drive moves management activity, including supporting solicitation activity, developing proposals, and managing stewardship efforts 

• Build and manage a fundraising portfolio of 75-100 principal gifts donors and prospects 

  • Set and achieve annual fundraising goals for the portfolio
  • Develop and implement personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Solicit gifts of $100,000 and higher from current and prospective donors, leveraging staff and lay leadership as appropriate
  • Work with the CEO and Senior Vice President of Growth to create comprehensive stewardship plans for all principal gifts donors

• Support capital campaign activity and participate in select strategy meetings 

• Support the CEO, Senior Vice President of Growth, and other senior leadership in managing key relationships with principal gifts donors and prospective donors

• Partner with Regional Directors and Regional Development Directors to build and expand a strong principal gifts pipeline

• Coordinate with the national office and regions on high-level donor activity, including solicitation strategies and regional visits from executive leadership

• Engage and collaborate with all departments across ADL on strategies for principal gift opportunities

• Utilize Salesforce to maintain accurate records of all donor interactions, individuals’ programmatic interests, and strategies for donor engagement and solicitation

• Collaborate with the development team in the pursuit of fundraising excellence and partner with colleagues across the organization to achieve ADL’s overall fundraising goals

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively write and present information to donors, board members, and staff

• Highly organized with the ability to wear multiple hats in a complex, fast-moving environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity and solutions

• A self-motivated team player with an energetic, flexible, and creative approach

• Sound judgment and sensitivity to highly confidential information

• Excellent communication and coalition-building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

• Willing to travel as needed for donor meetings and events 

• A passion for the mission of ADL

2. Work Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of senior development experience in a sophisticated fundraising organization with significant experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts

• A high level of knowledge and understanding of fundraising best practices 

3. Education

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
