POSITION DESCRIPTION

Aperture is seeking an innovative and creative Social Media Associate with strong

writing skills to join our close-knit team. The position is responsible for overseeing

the execution of social media across Aperture Foundation’s channels, driving interest

in and sales of Aperture’s books and programs, managing and growing audience and

community engagement, increasing Aperture’s visibility online, and assisting in the

publication of content on Aperture’s website.

This is an associate level position, reporting to the Digital Manager. The ideal

candidate is passionate about keeping on the pulse of the global photography and

cultural communities, their institutions, and influencers. S/he will have a history of

creating engaging and compelling content for social media, a deep understanding of

social media platforms, best practices, and trends, and strong writing and grammar

skills. The Social Media Associate’s success will be measured in terms of quality of

content, growth in followers and traffic, and resulting sales.

Candidate must be flexible, organized, efficient, and a proactive project manager.

Candidate must also enjoy working in a small, close-knit team in our busy New York

office.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position helps supervises a department intern.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media and Community Engagement

• Execute social media content on all channels, including Facebook, Twitter,

Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest; regularly publish content with SEO value

• Drive interest in and sales of Aperture’s books and programs

• Ensure the coherency of Aperture’s social media presence

• Listen to users and respond to conversations online

• Report on social media engagement in weekly online marketing meetings

• Ensure that key events have presence on social media before, during, and after

• Actively engage with and mobilize industry influencers online

• Be aware of and respond to algorithm changes across platforms, ensuring

visibility of content and continued engagement growth

Marketing and Metrics

• Report on the week’s digital marketing activities and strategize new content at

weekly online marketing meetings

• Track website and blog metrics, and translate into actionable recommendations

for content and overall marketing strategy

• Oversee the social media marketing plans for Aperture products and

programming

• Actively seek digital marketing opportunities for Aperture Foundation and its

projects, including utilization of new channels, cross-promotional opportunities,

and other opportunities to drive traffic to the Aperture Foundation website and

increase findability

• Oversee the digital media archive; create and monitor systems for organizationwide

accessibility and increased quality of digital assets

Content Management

• Assist in updating website and store with multimedia and visual content as

necessary

• Actively work to make Aperture content SEO friendly; be aware of best practices

for SEO and implement at all times

• Work closely with the Online Editor to schedule and post editorial content


Video and Digital Media Production

• Assist in conceptualizing video content and optimizing it for social media

• Oversee and execute Aperture’s live video schedule

• Work closely with whole Aperture Foundation staff to capitalize on last-minute

content opportunities, such as artists and authors being in town

• Supervise work scholar in shooting and editing of video projects, ensuring

adherence to deadlines and sign-offs of the marketing and editorial teams

• Ensure that all events are fully documented with still photography, video, and/or

audio

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

• 2-3 years of experience, preferably in content marketing or social media

marketing

• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work with a wide range

of internal departments

• Strong writing skills, with ability to create high-quality content quickly and of the

moment

• Experience running successful social media campaigns, and ability to analyze and

report what drives engagement and traffic

• Experience in social media video shooting and editing, with strong project

management skills

• Interest in digital marketing and social media trends

• Basic understanding of HTML, Google Analytics, and WordPress; familiarity with

Photoshop a plus

• Familiarity with social media tools and ability to learn new technology quickly

• Interest in and/or experience with photography, cultural institutions, and other

creative communities, in New York and internationally
