Based in Washington DC, the Program Officer, Associate or Assistant will be responsible primarily for the administration and operations of the Arabic Overseas Flagship Program and the Project Go Arabic program in Meknes, Morocco and will provide support periodically for other Flagship programs.

The Program Officer, Associate, or Assistant will work closely with a dedicated team of Flagship staff members and report to the Program Manager. The position also entails collaborating routinely with program staff and overseas partners in Morocco and other Flagship sites and with students, faculty and staff at universities in the United States.  Key responsibilities include assisting with a variety of program logistics and the handling of regular administrative tasks. The position will require strong organizational skills, a high degree of accuracy and timeliness, the ability to handle multiple tasks and to work independently, as well as a capacity to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.


·      Respond promptly and accurately to student  requests and inquiries by email and telephone;

·      Facilitate webinars with students to review application requirements for the programs; 

·      Review and periodically update the online applications;

·      Process applications and assist program directors with the selection of student participants;

·      Effectively manage student documents, files, and databases;

·      Coordinate language assessments of the students, including Oral Proficiency Interviews and online tests administered by American Councils;

·      Arrange travel overseas and in the U.S. for students, staff, faculty, and partners;

·      Help obtain visas for students and staff going overseas and for overseas partners visiting the U.S. ;

·      Assist with pre-departure orientations for students;

·      Process and keep well-organized records of invoices for payments, check requests, and wire requests;

·      Compile materials for grant proposals and reports;

·      Travel to domestic universities to meet new participants and prospective students;

·      Travel to Morocco and overseas sites to support partners and to evaluate program needs;

·      Assist with the website and create newsletters;

·      Provide general support for Flagship staff based in Washington, DC; and other duties as necessary.


·      BA or higher degree in fields related to international education

·      Strong written and oral communication skills in English

·      Advanced level ability in Arabic language

·      Experience with international education or service abroad

·      Demonstrated organizational ability

·      Demonstrated problem-solving skills

·      Strong attention to detail

·      Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

·      Ability to work independently while contributing to an overall team effort

·      Effective interpersonal skills

·      Strong computing skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

This position is budgeted as a Program Officer position in Pay Band 3, but the program may consider candidates with less experience for an entry-level Program Assistant position in Pay Band 2.
