Cornelia Connelly Center champions girls at risk, empowering them to realize their full potential from middle school

through college and beyond. CCC offers a thirteen year program to girls living in poverty, partnering with each girl

and her family from fourth grade to college graduation. Through Connelly Middle School of the Holy Child (CMS),

students in grades four through eight receive a joyful, holistic education. Our Graduate Support Program (GSP)

serves CMS alumnae, persistently committed to their high school success and college completion. With Cornelia

Connelly Center, a young woman learns to shine – transforming her life and our world.

Professional Responsibilities

The School Counselor is supervised by the Assistant Head of School and is required to provide assessment and

counseling to students and help them to set healthy goals and a plan for achieving those goals. The school counselor

works closely and in collaboration with the school leadership and teachers. The counselor also liaisons with other

agencies in the community to attain services for students.

● Provide counseling to IESP mandated students and high-need students on a weekly basis

● Explore students’ need for counseling or other services based on admissions interviews, staff observations,

reports, and/or concerns

● Assess if there are student safety issues and make appropriate action plans, including safety plans and possible

referrals to outside agencies

● Work as part of a team of professionals utilizing a trauma-informed model to provide holistic care for

students; attend weekly meetings that center on the student experience

● Work with the Learning Specialist to identify students social-emotional and learning needs so as to develop

appropriate accommodations to benefit student in the classroom

● Partners with Graduate Support Director to discuss student concerns and assess if there is a counseling need

● Write case notes about all significant professional communication and/or counseling sessions with students

and families throughout the school year

● Share concerns about students with Head of School/Assistant Head of School and help determine course of


● Teach and plan Girls Space (a Health/Wellness class) for each grade and coordinate the schools partnership

with Educational Alliance

● Support family and student workshops and classes on topics such as decision-making, nutrition, relationships

and self-esteem

● Connect parents to services and resources in the community, and provide parenting and other workshops

● Serve on the Admissions Committee to interview incoming students and families

● Share information, strategies, and techniques with the teaching staff that are helpful for student success in the


● Run enrichment programs for students such as socialization/anxiety/depression groups to meet the needs of


● Help train CCC staff for overnight summer camps in June

● Undertake tasks that contribute to the quality of and life of the school as needed (snack duty, etc.)

● Help the school and its staff to communicate with Spanish-speaking families verbally and in writing

● Attend school wide events including Back to School Night, Potluck, Graduation, Retreats, etc.

● Provide orientation and supervision to counseling intern, if one has been accepted to intern at CCC


● Master’s degree in counseling or related field

● Experience working in an urban environment preferred

● Experience working with children and adolescents

● Bilingual (Spanish)
