The Organization: Founded in 1969, Centro Legal de la Raza (Centro Legal) is a comprehensive legal services agency focused on strengthening low-income and Latino individuals and families by providing free and low-cost, bilingual, and culturally competent legal representation, education, and advocacy. Our mission is to protect and expand the rights of low-income people, particularly monolingual Spanish-speaking immigrants, throughout the East Bay.


Centro Legal’s Tenants’ Rights Program (aka Housing Program) is focused on serving the needs of our most vulnerable community members who are most at risk of displacement in the midst of the current Housing Crisis. We do this through the provision of limited scope consultations (advice and counsel, assistance with pleadings, discovery, etc.) and legal representation on issues ranging from unlawful rent increases to unlawful evictions. Centro Legal will soon be administering the provision of emergency cash assistance as part of its anti-displacement efforts and seeks a Financial Assistance Specialist to be the lead in processing numerous financial assistance applications.


The Position: First and foremost, the applicant will be tasked with processing applications for emergency cash assistance submitted by subcontracting agencies. Below is a more detailed explanation of these requirements.


1.      Process applications for emergency financial assistance.

2.      Ensure compliance with emergency financial assistance guidelines.

3.      Ensure emergency financial assistance applications are complete with proper documentation.

4.      Ensure compliance with government grant documentation requirements for emergency financial assistance program.

5.      Coordinate the provision of emergency financial assistance with subcontracting partners.

6.      Assist Finance Team on government invoices pertaining to emergency financial assistance.

7.      Other duties as requested by Grants Manager and/or Program Director.


Qualifications: First and foremost, the applicant must profoundly share Centro Legal’s mission and vision of social justice. Below are additional qualifications.

 

1.      Bachelor’s degree required.

2.      Minimum of two years of relevant experience.

3.      Commitment to serving low-income and under-served communities.

4.      Uncompromising attention to detail.

5.      Demonstrates the ability to be entrusted with sensitive information and conduct daily activities with the utmost professionalism and integrity.

6.      Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

7.      Superb organizational and time-management skills.

8.      Strong computer skills; proficient or advanced skills in Microsoft Suite, familiarity with database applications and the Internet.

9.      Ability to work independently as well as within a team

 

Compensation and Benefits: Salary commensurate with background and experience plus medical, dental, FSA, and 401(k) benefits. Generous vacation and holiday package.
