Position: Research Assistant

Status and Location: Full-time, Washington, D.C.

Reports to: Director of Research

FLSA Salary Classification: Full-time Exempt

Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000

 

Position Summary:

The Research Assistant supports all stages of the research process, including questionnaire design, analysis of survey findings, drafting report content, and publishing research findings. The Research Assistant will also assist with responding to media requests, producing toplines and banners, and number-checking all PRRI products.  The position will provide opportunities to pitch, write, and publish one’s own data analyses in blog posts (“Spotlights”). This role is ideal for a professional new to the field of public opinion with some experience working with data who wants to learn and grow alongside a team of talented research professionals. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all survey development processes, including designing survey questionnaires 
  • Analyze survey data using basic statistical techniques
  • Construct survey toplines and banners
  • Write PRRI research reports and Spotlights
  • Create presentation graphics and materials 
  • Conduct number checks for all PRRI products, including survey reports, secondary analyses, and social media products
  • Participate and contribute ideas in research team meetings and brainstorming sessions

 Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's degree in political science, sociology, statistics, or another field with relevance to public opinion and public policy 
  • Knowledge of basic statistical concepts related to public opinion work, such as margins of error, the implications of sample size, and significance levels
  • Internship, coursework, or work experience in analyzing and conducting survey research and/or working with large data sets 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to write about data clearly and concisely 
  • Interest in politics, policy, and religion, and a curiosity about how these factors affect Americans’ lives
  • Experience with Stata, SPSS, R, or other statistical software is a plus, but not required
