Overview: About Public Prep
The Public Prep Network (PPN) is a nonprofit organization that develops single-sex elementary and middle public schools that pursue excellence through continuous learning and data-driven instruction. Our model is designed to empower each student to build strong character, demonstrate critical thinking, possess a core body of knowledge and be on a predictive path to earn a degree from a four-year university.
Our network is currently comprised of three tuition-free single-sex public charter schools across five campuses and one tuition-free single-sex Pre-K. Our campuses are: Girls Prep Lower East Side Elementary, Girls Prep Lower East Side Middle School, Girls Prep Bronx Elementary School, Girls Prep Bronx Middle School, and Boys Prep Elementary School. The Pre-K program, PrePrep: the Joan Ganz Cooney Early Learning Center, is housed inside of Girls Prep Bronx Elementary School.

Primary functions & Position Overview:
Intervention Specialists work closely with the teachers and students on their assigned caseload in order to provide direct and indirect services. They prioritize inclusion and academic growth through a variety of service models, including small group evidence based interventions, parallel teaching, alternative teaching, and . The Intervention Specialist will directly provide specialized instruction to small groups of students. Intervention Specialists use their expertise in special education to collaborate with all teachers and support staff in the school community at the direction of the Academic Director/Principal.
The Intervention Specialist will coordinate and guide his/her school’s implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) by creating plans that support a range of student needs and building capacity within the school to improve outcomes for all students. The Intervention Specialist will connect all students with a range of social, emotional, behavioral, and academic supports.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitating evidence-based decision making by guiding teams in the consistent use of data within all meetings for students who are identified for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Ensuring appropriate accommodations are given to students during assessments and meeting with all other related service providers.
- Directly providing small-group instruction to ALL students in intervention classes.
- Actively engaging in individual and network-wide learning of best practices that facilitate effective team functioning and case management while seeking feedback and coaching that supports their own improvement as practitioners.
- Designing and implementing systems that ensure strategic and equitable management of resources, i.e. scheduling of student services, communicating with families, maintaining school records of IEP files, and student interventions.
- Collaborating with teachers to individualize instruction and to discuss students’ access to curriculum and learning goals.
- Ensuring that modifications, scaffolds and interventions align with pre-designed, content standards and Common Core State Standards and address students’ individual needs and learning styles.
- Delivering direct service and instruction to students.
- Providing indirect support through co-planning, accommodations, modifications and scaffolds to address students’ individual needs and learning styles, ensuring students have access to grade-level content standards.
- Using coaching tools and strategies that maximize their own performance and their students’ performance.
- Providing feedback and evaluation to students based on the development of individualized goals for performance that are specific, measurable, action-oriented, rooted in data and time-bound including, but not limited to, students’ formal IEP goals.
- Maintaining records of students’ progress toward Intervention and IEP goals.
- Fulfilling equitable schedules to serve at-risk students and students with IEPs.
- Communicate with families and building community with them through annual home visits and other school events.
- Attending IEP and RtI meetings, as needed.
- Providing assessment accommodations.
- Fulfilling additional responsibilities as they are assigned by the Academic Director and/or Principal.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- An M.A., Ed.M or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field New York State Certification in Special Education or a related field; additional certification a plus
- A minimum of four years of demonstrated success as a full-time special education teacher or special education services provider
- A demonstrated aptitude for effective case management and a proven ability to manage complex systems of data
- Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred
- Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
- Exceptional organization and planning skills
- Superior communication skills
- An ability to work collaboratively
- A commitment to single-sex education
- A strong work ethic and a sense of humor
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
- Training in Wilson, Just Words, R180, System 44, LLI, Fundations, and/or Math 180 is preferred
