The Youth Education Instructor position requires a dynamic and personable individual who will instruct the ReACTION gun violence prevention program in New York City public high schools, support our summer mentorship program, and help expand and develop relationships with community members and leaders to reduce gun violence. The Youth Education Instructor will also help organize our youth advocacy day and provide support to our youth arm, Youth Over Guns. This position requires 3-4 days teaching in schools across New York City or attending community events and one day in NYAGV’s office. While public school buildings remain closed or access is limited, the Youth Educator Instructor will conduct all classes and meetings remotely through zoom and other virtual platforms. 

This position is full-time but may potentially be modified to a part-time role of 3 days a week.

 

Qualifications

-B.A. degree/candidate for B.A. (preferred but not required). 

-Instructing and leadership experience preferred.

-Experience working with youth and ability to interact comfortably with a wide variety of people.

- Personal and professional experience and commitment to working and living with marginalized communities in under served neighborhoods. 

- Has experience engaging youth and young adults in an effective and professional way. 

- Strong interest in learning about gun violence prevention issues including laws and policies.

- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.

- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Word and working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

- Strong organizational and timekeeping skills.

- Knowledge of social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

- Proficiency in Spanish a plus but not required.
