The position will have primary responsibility for developing and running two new legal service programs serving residents of the westside of Chicago, as part of PBN’s Racial Equity Programming.  These projects will be done in partnership with legal service programs, and will work closely with community-based organizations and residents. The specific projects have not been determined, but as a result of a 3-month community outreach effort, are likely to focus on one or more of the following issues: tenant assistance, immigration, employment, expungement, government benefits, or general Know Your Rights presentations.

In addition, this position will assist the Programming Department in managing all clinics run by PBN. These clinics include those serving seniors with Advance Directives and general legal assistance, a Veteran Administration clinic, an Online Legal Counseling Clinic and others as they arise.

Both responsibilities require advising volunteer attorneys on substantive and procedural legal issues, scheduling volunteers, occasional provision of legal services to clients, communication with partner agency staff, assisting with onboarding and training new volunteer attorneys, using Better Impact volunteer management software, keeping Director of Programs and Volunteers apprised of progress and any problems, interacting with relevant board committees, and gathering data on clients, volunteers, and results.

The position will also perform other general responsibilities of the office when needed, in the same manner as all current staff.

J.D. required, as well as license to practice in Illinois. Ability to work independently, excellent written and oral communication skills, experience working with low-income clients on legal issues, experience working with communities of color, and comfort working with various constituencies. Will need transportation  for occasional travel to clinics and client locations.

Salary

$20,000 - $21,50018-20 hours per week.
