Part/Time: Intake Coordinator

The National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP), located in the Columbus Circle area, is a not-for-profit psychoanalytic training institute, as well as a provider of affordable psychotherapy services for the community.

NIP is currently seeking to hire a part-time Intake Coordinator (20 hours per week). This position will report to NIP’s Clinical Operations Director. Must be available at least one evening per week (until 8 pm)

General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Providing support for the mental health intake process for adults seeking mental health services in a culturally competent manner. The Clinician will work closely with Clinical Operations Director to ensure a smooth and timely placement into therapy.


  • Responding to inquiry calls and emails from potential patients
  • Completing phone screenings to assess for rule-out criteria
  • Scheduling initial consultations
  • Performing and documenting initial consultations
  • Training Social Work Interns, Psychology Externs, and Post-Doctoral students on the intake process and how to complete phone screens and initial consultations
  • Assigning phone screens to Social Work Interns, Psychology Externs, and Post-Doctoral students and tracking their progress
  • Signing off on initial diagnoses
  • Maintaining updated list of referral resources
  • Providing appropriate information and referrals to patients
  • Maintaining automated records and enter data as it pertains to intake process
  • Tracking monthly intake statistics


  • Master’s degree in social work and LCSW licensure by the State of New York
  • Knowledge of clinical process and ability to coordinate and manage intake flow
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical assessment and diagnosis
  • Some experience/knowledge of insurance billing preferred
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations
  • Strong personal communication skills and ability to maintain a good rapport with the staff and NIP community
  • Must be articulate and communicate well both in person and on the telephone
  • Must be able to respond calmly and effectively in urgent or emergency situations
  • Must be completely proficient in a Microsoft Windows (Word, Excel) and have the ability to learn new web-based software
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, problem solver, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • 2+ years post master’s degree experience doing psychosocial assessments and diagnosing according to DSM 5 criteria
  • Hospital experience a plus
