Assertive Engagement Case Worker

Department: Economic Opportunities

Full-time Position (40 Hours a Week Non-Exempt)

Reports to: Economic Opportunities Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary function of this position is to assist clients who are dealing with possible eviction to remain stably housed. The Assertive Engagement Case Worker (AECW) determines client eligibility through an interview process and crisis needs assessment. With the understanding that the client knows best what they need to do to solve their current situation, the AECW offers resources and assistance as needed. The AECW recognizes that how assistance is offered is often more important than the assistance provided; and therefore, they approach each client with empathy, active listening skills and the ability to be an advocate for the client.

PRINCIPLE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify eligibility based on determined risks and income; follow funder's guidelines to assist eligible clients with rent assistance.
  • Provide Assertive Engagement case management to clients engaged in the Multnomah Stabilization Initiative (MSI) program.
  • Active participation in the client selection process as outlined in the contract.
  • Assist eligible clients gain access to emergency energy assistance and/or any other service to promote stabilization.
  • Find appropriate workshops and classes for clients.
  • Complete housing inspections.
  • Teach classes on budgeting, money management and promote self-sufficiency plans with clients.
  • Assist with tracking of available agency resources.
  • Attend County meetings for rent assistance coordinators (as requested by supervisor).
  • Enter data into the Service Point database.
  • Maintain confidential client files in compliance with EPHC, Multnomah County and Home Forward standards.
  • Follow EPHC policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.  
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience working with a broad range of issues affecting Latinx community especially issues related to economic barriers & housing.
  • Experience with community networking and organizing.
  • Experience conducting case management.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate day-to-day activities of volunteers.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with data entry required.
  • Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities with high attention to detail required.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings or weekends.
  • Must have driver's license, ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). Frequent driving in the Tri-County area required. 
  • Satisfactory results from civil, criminal, and motor vehicle background check required.
  • Ability to support organizational and program specific mission and goals.

COMPENSATION: Starting pay rate is $18.00/hr Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
