Position Overview

The ACLU of Georgia (ACLU-GA) seeks a Major Gifts Officer (MGO), a frontline fundraiser who establishes and builds strong, authentic long-term partnerships with donors, bringing them closer to our work. The MGO qualifies, cultivates, solicits, stewards, and grows a portfolio of donors with capacity to make gifts of $10,000 +, and plans and executes strategies to sustain and increase support from current and prospective donors.

The ACLU of Georgia is a state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union and is incorporated in Georgia as two entities: the ACLU of Georgia, a c4 organization, and the ACLU Foundation of Georgia, a c3 organization. We work in the courts, the state legislature, and communities throughout the state to protect and extend civil rights and liberties. Nationwide, the ACLU is both a nonprofit and nonpartisan. We work collaboratively with the National ACLU and share resources. As a multi-issue organization, we remain vigilant in all civil liberty issues and support partners in areas where we do not lead. It is a strategic imperative for us to be an agile organization that can respond to new crises and opportunities. The ACLU GA has a proven track record of success employing integrated advocacy -- combining litigation, policy advocacy, legislation, research and analysis, public education, strategic communications, and community organizing to achieve our goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of, and working closely with the Director of Philanthropy, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to make contributions of $10,000 or more. The portfolio may include major gift, annual fund and planned giving donors. The MGO builds meaningful relationships with current and new major donors, moving donors through the giving pipeline, and working with the Philanthropy Director to diversify the donor base. Specific duties include:

·        Prepare highly personalized proposals, stewardship reports and correspondence for donors.

·        Facilitate solicitations for the Executive Director and Philanthropy Director as appropriate.

·        Work with program staff on donor engagement opportunities and to develop content for proposals that align program priorities with donor interests.

·        Participate in donor cultivation events.

·        Maintain deep knowledge of Georgia and national ACLU programs and activities.

·        Attend ACLU GA events as requested.

·        Special projects and events and other duties as assigned by the Philanthropy Director

Qualifications

·        Five+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or relevant sales and marketing.

·        Experience establishing and building strong, long-term partnerships with donors. A proven record of securing visits with prospective donors, and soliciting, closing, and stewarding four and five-figure gifts. The most competitive candidates also will have proven experience converting new donors/prospects into major donors.

·        Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills.
