Project Associate – Trail Guidebook

Parks and Trails New York is looking for a focused candidate to fill a year-long, grant-funded position. The Project Associate will be responsible for assisting with an update to Cycling the Hudson Valley, a guidebook focused on the north-south route of New York’s Empire State Trail.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Project Director, the Project Associate will assist with research, developing content, and writing text for the new version of the guidebook. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·        Research and update information on trail routing, amenities, points of interest, and communities in the Hudson and Champlain Valleys.

·        Revise and update guidebook text.

·        Curate new photographs, as necessary, for use in the guidebook.

·        Review draft content and coordinate with regional stakeholders to ensure work is accurate and complete.

·        Create content used to promote guidebook through press releases, social media and targeted outreach.

·        Other tasks as necessary to complete guidebook, reach potential customers, and to update related PTNY resources to reflect information contained in final guidebook.

Qualifications/Skills: Well organized, excellent oral and written communications skills, multi-tasker, strategic thinker, experience with Microsoft Office and web-based tools. Demonstrated interest/experience in environmental, conservation, parks, trails, and/or active transportation issues. Experience with ArcGIS or similar programs preferred. Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of professional experience or equivalent preferred.

 

Hours: This is a grant-funded position that will run for one year, from June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022. Candidates are expected to work full-time, 35 hours/week within regular work week hours (M-F, 8-5).

 

Work Location: Position will involve remote work, with periodic travel to Albany needed to meet with other PTNY staff, or to locations in the Hudson Valley or Champlain Valley for research related to work responsibilities.

 

Compensation: $40,000 for full year, with competitive benefits package, including health and dental and generous vacation and sick time.
