The Broadway Mall Association is looking for a diversely skilled Development and Communications Associate who is creative, flexible, and able to manage concurrent tasks. The ideal candidate must possess strong writing and organizational skills and must be able to work both independently and collaboratively. The Development and Communications Associate is involved in all aspects of fundraising including event management, marketing & communications, and office administration. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.


The Broadway Mall Association (BMA) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and advocating for a critical environmental resource in the heart of upper Manhattan. The Broadway malls are a 5-mile, tree-lined greenway stretching from 70th to 168th Street, featuring colorful perennial gardens, over 1,000 canopy and flowering trees, benches, and rotating exhibitions of world-class public art that reflect the distinct, diverse communities of the area. BMA works alongside other non-profits, the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, and community members in the Upper West Side, West Harlem, Morningside Heights, Hamilton Heights, and Hamilton Heights to ensure that all of our neighbors can enjoy the environmental, social, and economic benefits of thriving public green space in New York City.


Development and Communications Associate Duties and Responsibilities


Fundraising

·  Engage in communicating with donors, government officials, board members, and the general public through written materials, email, and social media

·  Track deadlines, prepare grants, and manage post-award processes

·  Prepare materials for both direct mail and digital solicitations

·  Collaborate with ED & BOD to create annual fundraising plan and calendar

·  Assist ED in implementation of annual board member report card and board effectiveness survey evaluation

·  Management of database systems for reporting and revenue tracking purposes

·  Participate in the recruitment, management, and compensation process of interns

·  Actively research prospective donors including foundations, buildings, individuals, and corporations


Event Management

·  Involved in all aspects of event management for annual Gala

·  Work closely with event chairs and committees on planning and executing fundraising events


Marketing and Communications

·  Oversee and manage content updates to BMA website, social media, and organization databases

·  Represent BMA at seasonal street fairs and walking tours if an intern is not available


Program Management

·  Work with ED in administrative and program planning aspects including fundraising events, partnership programs, proposal preparation, and grant writing

·  Facilitate the success and execution of BMA programs, measuring results and providing the BOD with recommendations

·  Recognize growth opportunities and priorities, communicating them to the appropriate staff/board member


Office Administration

·  Manage internal organization processes and infrastructure

·  Office management; oversee administrative functions for BMA Office, ensuring smooth daily operations of office

·  Information technology; ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure, including hardware, software, and web applications

·  Other duties as assigned


KEY QUALIFICATIONS

• 2-year degree or equivalent experience

• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Ability and willingness to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekend days

·  Demonstrated ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment

·  Skillful in problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·  Experience with CMS and mass email service systems

·  Proficiency in photo editing programs: Adobe InDesign, Paint, etc.

• Experience maintaining a database system

• Experience working for a non-profit organization

• Experience in grant writing and reporting


COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
