Each season the Philharmonic connects with up to 50 million music lovers through live concerts in New York City and on its worldwide tours and residencies as well as with its digital recording series; international broadcasts on television, radio, and online; and as a resource through its varied education programs and expansive digital archive.


The New York Philharmonic seeks to hire a Payroll and Payables manager. The Payroll and Payables Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance. This is a hybrid role responsible for payroll and accounting work and will interact with members of staff at all levels.

Essential job functions

·      Payroll processing for complex orchestra, substitute musicians, hourly and salaried administrative staff

·      Comply with applicable Federal, State and City payroll legislation and provide reporting, as necessary. Experience with multi-state employers a plus.

·      Familiarity with pre-tax benefit programs

·      Day-to-day accounts payable inquiries and processing

·      Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy and reasonableness

·      Prepare all payables processed through third-party invoice and expense software (Nexonia) for import into accounting system (Blackbaud Financial Edge)

·      Prepare weekly EFT payment run and ad hoc check and wire payments

·      Annual tax preparation and filings:

o  1099

o  1042

o  W-2

·      Audit support:

o  403(b) (this position is the lead on this audit)

o  Workers Compensation (this position is the lead on this audit)

o  Financial Statements Audit

·      Ad hoc reporting

·      Journal entries

·      Reconciliations

·      Experience with transitioning payroll and/or accounting software a plus

·      Other duties as assigned

Requirements

A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting and payroll with a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and able to manage several projects at once. Moderate to advanced experience in Microsoft Excel. Must be able to work with a wide variety of people and personalities and willing to collaborate with fellow team members and recommend process improvements. Experience in Blackbaud Financial Edge, Nexonia, Intacct and Ceridian a plus. Candidate must be able to work remotely on a long-term temporary basis.
