Looking for a person who likes communicating with people, particularly seniors, is very organized, and is at ease working on a computer and on-line.

We are One Community:

One Community promotes equitable access to resources and opportunities in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. We have been serving seniors and other vulnerable people in our community during the pandemic, delivering food to 1500 households each week with a coalition of partner organizations. In addition to food, we have found that isolated seniors need emotional support and ways to re-establish social contact while isolating from the threat of Covid-19. In response, we created the Sharing Network.

The Program.

The Sharing Network is for seniors who are isolated by the threat of Covid-19, particularly residents of public housing who lack internet access. It offers the opportunity to connect in moderator-led conversation groups over the phone. Each conversation group, consisting of about 8 people, is about a specific topic and meets for one hour a week for five weeks. The program uses Zoom for the group phone interface. Typical groups are Neighborhood Favorites Then and Now, Making and Enjoying Food, Bible study, Civil Rights History and Experience, Women’s Christian Fellowship, Chair Yoga, R&B and Soul Hits of the 60s and 70s, Baseball Chat and La Vida Neoyourquina (en Español).
