PURPOSE: The Statewide Victim Services Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy to sexual assault survivors receiving services within the Legal Assistance to Victims project and provides clerical assistance to the LAV’s legal team.

This staff person will work directly with agency attorneys, certified rape crisis centers and system-based agencies to uphold the rights of sexual assault survivors. This position is located in Tampa.

STATUS:                                             Part-time, non-exempt

REQUIREMENTS AT ENTRY:


  1. High school diploma with one year of relevant experience. An equivalent diploma issued by a state department of education or by the U.S. Armed Forces Institute may be substituted.
  2. Understanding of and commitment to issues impacting victims of sexual violence.
  3. Experience working with victims of violence and commitment to pursuing justice through an anti-oppression lens.

4.      Intermediate level of computer skills (including word processing software skills).

  1. Commitment to recognizing and examining how one’s identity, and the identities of others, play out within the workplace.
  2. Ability and willingness to work with people of different nationalities, gender, gender-identity, sexuality, education, and experience.
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with individuals of varying backgrounds and educational levels.
  4. Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  5. Strong attention to organization, detail, and accuracy.
  6. Flexibility and ability to work independently.
  7. Fluency in Spanish not required but highly preferred.
  8. Ability to travel. Must have own means of transportation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Provide competent and zealous advocacy to victims of sexual violence.
  2. Assist in coordination and implementation of strategic plan for outreach to survivors in the Tampa Bay area.
  3. Provide technical assistance to community- and system-based agencies providing services to survivors.
  4. Provide clerical support to attorneys by coordinating aspects of case management up to and including trial, including e-filing.
  5. Provide support in discovery processes, case investigation, file maintenance and service of documents to third parties.
  6. Adhere to rules of conduct related to client confidentiality and client conflicts of interests; Comply with the Florida Bar Rules of Professional Conduct.
  7. Welcome guests and clients by greeting them in person or on the telephone and answering or directing inquiries.
  8. Attend and participate in staff meetings, projects, and in-service trainings.
  9. Process the intake system of applicants for legal services utilizing victim-centric and trauma-informed methods.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
