Coaches for Mentor Teachers for the AUSL Chicago Teacher Residency (CTR) Program

Summary

The Associate Director (AD), CTR will aid in AUSL’s overall mission to develop effective teachers that provide students with an excellent education in their own neighborhood by training teachers in evidence-based practices and creating space for residents to practice applying strategies authentically. The AD, CTR will assist the Director, CTR in developing Chicago Teacher Residents to become highly effective teachers that meet AUSL standards of excellence and to ultimately be hired as Licensed Teachers in Chicago Public Schools. The AD, CTR will maintain a sense of urgency for AUSL’s mission, keeping the holistic success of students at the center of the work.


Essential Job Functions

  • Coach a cohort of 15-20 CPS/AUSL Network Mentor Teachers
  • Maximize and develop the most effective mentoring and teaching skills in mentor teachers through observation, feedback and open, clear communication during coaching meetings
  • Design and deliver Professional Development (PD) to resident teachers:
  • 2 week Onboarding Orientation
  • Weekly Summer Teacher Moves sessions
  • Summer Mentor and Resident Training
  • Full day CTR PD days every 5 weeks throughout the school year
  • Observe teaching instruction of 30-40 residents and give biweekly Quick Feedback for a set of CTR Teacher Moves
  • Monitor CTR Program Guidelines such as:
  • Attendance
  • Lead Teach Tasks
  • AUSL Network Host Visits
  • Scorecard Reflections
  • Motivate and accelerate resident performance by utilizing the CTR restorative communication framework
  • Model professionalism and a growth mindset in all interactions
  • Develop positive relationships that enable transformational coaching
  • Prioritize equity and strive to understand how to embody and promote anti-racist actions


Other Responsibilities

  • Manage 1-2 CTR Projects/ Events such as:
  • Orientation & Summer PD
  • CTR PD Days
  • Network Host Visits
  • Mentor Development PD
  • CTR Esprit de Corps
  • Resident Hiring Process
  • Resident Graduation
  • Interview future CTR residents and collaborate with CTR Recruitment team
  • Partner with AUSL Human Resources (HR) and University Liaison to facilitate resident transfers or releases
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of CTR stakeholders including CTR residents, CTR grads, future CTR residents, Mentor teachers, future mentors, Host teachers, school administrators, AUSL coaches, and the Curriculum team


Qualifications

  • Education: Master Degree
  • Professional Certification: Professional Educator License
  • Experience: 5+ years teaching in an urban school and 2+ years of coaching or mentoring
  • Specialized knowledge: Danielson Framework, Elena Aguilar’s Coaching model, High Leverage Practices for Diverse Learners, Culturally Responsive Teaching, edTPA, Adult Learning, familiarity with AUSL curricular resources preferred (CKLA, EL Education, Eureka Math, Amplify Science)
  • Skills: Proficient use of G-Suite (Google Calendar, Docs, Hangout Meets, Slides, Classrooms). Google Certified Educator preferred
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects at one time and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to travel between multiple school sites
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred

Physical Demands

Local travel in the Chicago Metropolitan area on a daily basis. Some light lifting is required. Ability to stand at least 3 to five hours at a time. Ability to lift 3-5 pounds when working with school equipment in the classroom. Ability to be around children in a school and classroom environment.
