The Child Services Coordinator provides advocacy, referral, and direct support to children and parents who are survivors of domestic violence. A candidate who enjoys being responsive to the care and safety needs of children, is knowledgeable about the effects of trauma and domestic violence on children and families, practices self-care and self-awareness, and welcomes supervision and support to mitigate vicarious trauma will thrive in this position.
This position reports to the Family and Child Liaison. Schedule: full-time, Monday-Friday, with a combination of day and evening hours (not more than 3 evenings per week). Requires flexibility in scheduling client need.
- Support the Clinical Director and Child and Family Liaison in facilitating positive parenting opportunities for families in our programs.
- Develop a trusting relationship with parents, and offer support strategies.
- Provide trauma-informed crisis interventions for children in distress.
- Develop and maintain database of area providers of children’s services.
- In collaboration with case managers, assess children’s needs and connect parents with in-house services, as well as outside providers as needed.
- Accompany families and advocate with parents in various settings, including: juvenile/family court, daycare/ schools, and some Department of Child and Family services meetings.
- Provide consultation to families and collateral contacts.
- Attend program case review and provide consultation and follow-through, when appropriate.
- Develop and facilitate age-appropriate and trauma-informed educational, therapeutic, and play activities.
- Implement trauma-informed, child-centered practices in our organization.
- Provide occasional on-site childcare, and oversee child care volunteers during client appointments, group meetings (i.e. parenting groups, support groups), and PlaySpace time.
- Co-facilitate parenting groups.
- Attend regular individual and group supervision and other Transition House meetings as required. Thursday afternoon Case Review attendance required.
- Orient, support, and coordinate efforts of PlaySpace volunteers, as needed.
- Document clinical, case management, and administrative services provided, as necessary, for record-keeping and team-communication.
- Assist with community education and professional trainings, as required.
- BA/BS preferred plus at least 2 years of relevant direct service experience (social work, human services, education, counseling, or related field) helpful.

- Demonstrated ability to provide services to children/families from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of family systems, PTSD, conflict resolution, domestic violence, and crisis intervention strongly preferred.
- Upholds the highest standards of accountability and professionalism with a commitment to excellence in all facets of program delivery.
- Understands the impact of chronic trauma on adults and children as well as best practices in trauma-informed social service.
- Experience working with and on behalf of people who are socially marginalized including individuals who are very low income, immigrants, homeless, mentally ill, have substance addictions, or are victims of domestic violence.
- Posses a mature, empathic temperament with capacity for compromise and humor.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, high degree of comfort with technology and advanced Internet and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
- Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to climb stairs frequently, bend, and lift items up to 30 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record required.
- Must agree to Criminal Offense Record Information (CORI) background check prior to hire (findings will not automatically disqualify candidates).
Work is performed in a non-traditional office environment as well as in the on-site play room, meeting rooms, living spaces of residential program, and at other locations as needed.
