Background: The Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing (SCANPH) is the leading voice representing the affordable housing industry in a region of over 18 million residents, and our advocacy and programming efforts have contributed greatly toward assisting the financially vulnerable in our communities since 1985. SCANPH is uniquely situated to identify, prioritize, strategize, and lead policy and programming efforts that are designed to create an environment conducive to affordable housing development.

Headquartered in Los Angeles and led by a small but productive team, SCANPH regularly convenes programs and events featuring leading experts from across the industry to strengthen member knowledge and build capacity among member organizations. We also develop original policy research, and work to advance creative legislative proposals that will produce and preserve affordable housing.

SCANPH membership includes 1500 organizational-based members who are based primarily in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, and include non-profit housing developers, private businesses, property management companies, government agencies, and social service organizations.

About the Role: Over the course of the past three years, SCANPH has expanded the frequency and scope of its capacity-building programming to serve the affordable housing industry and our members. In an organizational record, in 2019 alone, SCANPH educated 3,617 members of the industry through training, networking, and technical assistance programs and an additional 1500 attendees through the SCANPH Annual Conference, the premier regional event for the affordable housing industry—for a total of 5,117 attendees touched by our programmatic work in 2019.

This role will help SCANPH increase its capacity to deliver new events and programming so we can meet the needs of our growing membership. New contracts and organizational initiatives require SCANPH to expand the types and frequency of events that serve either all members or subsets of members.

While the ideal candidate will have some event planning experience, we will prioritize any candidates with strong project management skills, particularly exquisite attention to detail, speed mixed with accuracy, highly responsive, and a strong communicator with a desire to learn, take initiative, and advance awareness of affordable housing. A self-directed worker is paramount. Our programs engage members in purposeful dialogue and a strong candidate will have an interest in housing policy and the ideation of programs that respond to member needs on a variety of emerging topics.

This position will be under the supervision of the Director of Public Affairs & Programs.
