Come join the Wang YMCA of Chinatown as the Director of Healthy Aging! Working under the Healthy Living Director this newly developed position will assist in engaging, retaining, and impacting our older adult members.  

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director, and in the accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Director of Healthy Aging is responsible for effectively implementing and executing the Healthy Aging member engagement model with an emphasis on membership development as it relates to retention, helping members achieve wellness goals, building relationships, small communities and member satisfaction. The Director of Healthy Aging is responsible for oversight and delivery of Healthy Aging Adult Programs for the Wang YMCA of Chinatown.

This position will develop and implement strategies to engage, retain, and impact Healthy Aging YMCA members; deepen member involvement and provide support with consistency in innovative, quality programs; work with membership, marketing and across program departments to connect Healthy Aging members to programs.

The Director of Healthy Aging is the Champion for improving the health of aging adults in our community. This focus will deepen social engagement between the Y and aging adults, increasing member engagement and retention. The Director of Healthy Aging will ensure that the needs of this population are met, which will assist with addressing issues of health inequities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead, oversee and implement the Member Engagement Model for Healthy Aging Adults (HAA) which focuses on new member onboarding, providing high level of member service, assisting members to achieve their wellness goals, build small communities within our Y’s and support a deeper sense of belonging to our cause.
  • Monitor Healthy Aging Adult member relations and satisfaction; recommend solutions and enhancements to increase satisfaction.
  • Develop and deliver communication strategies for frontline staff and participants to increase the understanding of the benefits of participating in the Y.
  • Create and implement re-engagement strategies for HAA who are at risk of terminating, or who have terminated.
  • Lead and implement the process for outreaching to current/non-active members increase HHA member participation and satisfaction.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate selected special promotions and engagement activities (monthly retention activities, challenges and goals).
  • Establish, implement and maintain community partnerships.
  • Participate in community partner site events.
  • Develop and implement annual budgets for assigned program and membership areas, and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit reports as requested.  
  • Manage staff and projects as assigned.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a Healthy Aging Advisory Committee.
  • As appropriate, serve as a representative on any Association Committee.
  • Assist with fundraising events and Annual Campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills & Abilities:

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services, wellness, health education, recreation or related field, or its equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Must possess outstanding public relations skills, tact, diplomacy, and a clear, courteous and professional manner with people and enjoy a high degree of public contact.
  • High level of written, oral and people-oriented communication skills and the ability to work independently and handle numerous projects concurrently is required.
  • Experience and ability with to use social media and/or technology to engage, inform and communicate to and with members.
  • Ability to connect and establish positive relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, community organizations and corporations in promotion of membership, program and the YMCA mission.
  • Display and model best practices for Member Engagement and Retention by providing enthusiastic, high quality service through active listening, relationship-building and positive interactions.
  • Strong skills and initiative in planning, organizing and completing projects affecting a large number of stakeholders.
  • Be informed and up to date on the latest developments in the Healthy Aging Adult wellness field.
  • Develop relationships and be intentional about implementing small communities.
  • Proven initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently, while working collaboratively with others.

  • At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
