The Director, Center for Applied Learning and Impact (DCALI) will work closely with the Chief Impact Officer and Chief of Staff and Strategy to help GLIDE achieve its strategic initiative of becoming an effective learning organization. The DCALI will take a lead role in a multi-departmental collaborative effort to build GLIDE’s capacities for systematic problem solving, experimentation with innovation, learning from our own history and experience, learning from best practices in the field, and transferring knowledge quickly and efficiently through the organization. The successful candidate will have experience creating and maintaining an outcomes-oriented organizational data culture, identifying and implementing creative metrics for complex societal problems, and developing organizational capacity for data driven decision making, impact measurement, and program data analysis.  

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Lead the implementation of GLIDE’s impact framework strategy; 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive tools that allow Programs, Center for Social Justice, and GLIDE Church data to be turned into impact insights; 
  • Use advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic initiatives and uncover optimization opportunities; understand how to interpret programmatic data; 
  • Oversee staff who design and deliver reports and insights that track and analyze GLIDE’s program data and performance metrics; 
  • Guide and support the team’s efforts around data visualization for a variety of internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to internal stakeholders; 
  • Report annually on overall organizational impact; 
  • Work with Fund Development to develop strategies to use data to obtain additional funding; 
  • Develop external communications (white papers, journal entries, conference posters, etc) to present to academic partners and other social service providers to share GLIDE’s best practices with the field; 
  • Work with GLIDE’s Church and Center for Social Justice to identify the means to produce evidence that will inform policymakers or other policy advocates at the local, state, and national levels; 
  • Oversee and support the transition from Efforts to Outcomes to Salesforce database; 
  • Oversee and support annual program data collection efforts, including conducting in-person client interviews and focus groups;  
  • Contribute to expanding, supporting and making more visible the evidence related approaches, strategies and methodologies that promise to improve results, strengthen accountability, demonstrate impact, and encourage learning for improvement; 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

  

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Commitment to systems-driven solutions for scalable and sustainable impact; 
  • Sound judgment and strong leadership skills; experience developing staff professionally and building solid teams; 
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies. A team player who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding work environment. Ability to effectively run meetings and lead work groups to achieve defined goals; 
  • Previous experience implementing systems that demonstrate impact required; 
  • Ability to employ flexibility and creativity in the face of ambiguity and challenge; 
  • Ability to methodically implement priority initiatives and specific goals; 
  • Ability to research, analyze, and communicate written and verbal reports of key ideas to senior leadership. Strong analytical skills. Ability to evaluate programs and interpret outcomes; 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; 
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures. Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating and working respectfully with people different from themselves; 
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and philosophy of GLIDE.  

  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

· BA degree with at least 8+ years’ experience, preferably in a non-profit environment (work experience in a complex programmatic environment) or a graduate degree with at least 5+ years’ experience, preferably in a non-profit environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;  

· Experience developing and implementing program evaluations including research tools, data collection and analysis, and report writing;  

· Understands complexities of governmental contracts and foundation grants; 

· Strategy/management consulting experience a plus but not required. 

  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

· N/A 

  

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

· Exceptionally strong communication skills; 

· Proficiency in spelling, grammar and writing needed to draft detailed instructions, service plans, correspondence, memos, and other required documentation. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  

  • Ability to perform mathematic calculations with speed and high degree of accuracy; 
  • Ability to interpret and analyze statistical data and other data found in reports relevant to programs or projects.  

  COMPUTER SKILLS  

  • Skilled in MS Office suite; 
  • Some facility with statistical programming languages (SPSS, R, Python, etc) and data visualization software (Tableau, etc) recommended.  
  • Salesforce experience required.

Uses computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time; 

· Activities that occur frequently are: sitting, standing, walking, and handling. Activities that occur infrequently are: bending, crouching, kneeling, twisting, reaching straight above and below shoulder level, carrying and lifting up to 25 pounds; 

· Ability to sit for minimum periods of one hour at a time, and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day. Ability to move quickly to address emergency or potentially dangerous situations. Ability to move about the building and the organization as needed; 

· As this position requires periods of sitting and repetitive use of a telephone, computer and other office equipment, this person must take frequent short breaks and integrate stretching into her/his daily duties to avoid musculoskeletal disorders;

· Potential exposure to a range of pests and other occupational hazards related to working in the Tenderloin; 

· Noise level is moderate and lighting is conducive to completion of work; 

· GLIDE is located in the Tenderloin, a high-crime neighborhood. Due to our surroundings, it is important to always be aware of what’s going on around you while walking around the neighborhood.
