Job Posting: Manager, Student Leadership Programs

ABOUT ONE LOVE

One in three women and nearly one in three men experience relationship abuse in their lifetime.[1] Young women ages 16-24 are at three times greater risk.[2] More than 1 in 2 transgender people will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime.[3] Three women a day are killed by their current or former partner in the US alone.[4] The statistics around relationship abuse make it a public health epidemic that all of us have a stake in changing.

The One Love Foundation focuses on educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, so that they can identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better. As the emerging organization dedicated to relationship health education, One Love is on a mission to empower young people to not only learn about healthy relationships, but crucially share that knowledge with their peers to save and change lives. Started out of a relationship violence tragedy, One Love understands how critical relationships are to our health, success, and happiness, and that many of us are not taught how to build and identify quality ones.

Today, One Love’s campaign is equal parts national and local in its scope. Nationally, One Love has created a mission, messaging and educational tools that standardize the language used to teach young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships. This past summer One Love began the work of creating their Theory of Change. Through that process One Love affirmed their commitment to serve “all youth” with an increased focus in serving youth of color, LGBTQ+ youth, male identifying youth, youth with disabilities, and youth whose first language is Spanish or Mandarin.

Locally, One Love works on the ground with young people, schools, youth-facing community groups and social service partners to ensure that their programs are used in a way that is right for each community. In 2017, One Love established on-the-ground teams in four cities to increase the velocity of their efforts in engagement and activation. One Love now has staff on the ground in five regions. By serving these communities full-time, One Love is amplifying a conversation about relationships that is changing and saving lives.

ABOUT THE MANAGER, STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Since launching One Love, young people have regularly raised their hands asking how they can play a role in furthering the movement to end relationship abuse. In response, One Love first launched the Campus Ambassador program to empower college students to lead this work on their campuses. Subsequently, the Teen Ambassador program was launched to similarly engage high school student leaders. Both programs empower students to educate, advocate and rally support for One Love’s work individually or through student-led Team One Love clubs.

Community members are the best champions for healthy relationships education, bringing the most authentic and compelling voice to the issue among their peers and with key decision-makers in schools and community groups. It is One Love’s responsibility to ensure that those who are interested have clear direction on how to use their powerful voice for the most impact and to elevate those voices across their communities as leaders of this conversation.

In response, One Love is looking to activate volunteers under the banner of Team One Love, providing them with clear direction, goals, tools and support necessary to lead the movement to end relationship violence in their community. Students have been the cornerstone of One Love’s volunteer engagement strategy and have demonstrated the power of their leadership and potential for impact.

The Manager, Student Leadership Programs will report to the Director of Volunteer Engagement and spearhead all aspects of the Teen and College Ambassador programs as well as the work with Team One Love Clubs. They will continue to build out the national engine – including tools, resources, and processes – to enable our five regional teams to lead local student leadership programs and for students anywhere to engage as leaders in the movement.
