Requirements:

  • A law degree and current license to practice law in Montana is preferred. We will consider applicants with the ability to waive in with a qualifying UBE score, or a willingness to take and pass the next Montana Bar Exam.
  • Prior legal services experience is preferred, but a demonstrated commitment to social justice through volunteer activities and internships is valued.
  • Must have the ability to take and pass Tribal Bar exams as required.
  • Overnight and day travel to surrounding communities is required as needed.

Responsibilities:

Represent survivors of family and sexual violence statewide, with a particular focus in in Western Montana, primarily the communities of Missoula and Hamilton, and on serving American Indians from the Blackfeet and Flathead Reservations, and members of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

  • Work primarily in the area of family law, but may also assist with other poverty law issues including consumer, housing, employment, public benefits, and probate for domestic and sexual violence survivors.
  • Provide legal services ranging from brief counsel and advice, to full-scale representation and litigation.
  • Participate in MLSA’s statewide initiatives and impact work, and implement grant and contract requirements through casework.

The Location: You’ll be based in Missoula, home of the University of Montana and the Alexander Blewett III School of Law. You’ll enjoy easy access to world-class skiing, hiking, natural hot springs, and fly-fishing. A college-town vibe and bustling economy make Missoula one of Montana’s most vibrant cities.
