This position is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and maintenance of supportive family engagement and training across all Cocoon House programs. This position will establish, implement and maintain programs to help families have the support they need to prevent their youth from becoming homeless and to help families reunite if their youth does become homeless. The Director of Family Engagement gets to work with a dynamic team that includes the Senior Director of Programs and the agency leadership in program strategy and development.  This role is a vital piece of helping Cocoon House expand our family engagement services and thus helping to break the cycle of homelessness for youth and young adults.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Increase family engagement strategy across agency

  • Develop and implement training across agency on best practices when working with families
  • Standardize family engagement strategies across programs
  • Help refine curriculum for parenting classes
  • Focus on total wellness, including Mental Health and Emotional Health of families in our county
  • Supervision of family programs may be a responsibility in the future
  • Manage external relations including community partners and resources

Expand current family services

  • Help provide drop-in family support services county wide in collaboration with current Cocoon House Family Support Meetings
  • Expand current family/guardian classes/trainings
  • Train and implement Strengthening Families Curriculum
  • Identify programs and funding for early prevention (ages 8-12)
  • Identify new partnerships across region that will enhance our services offered and refer into our services

Support healthy home environments for LGBTQIA+ youth

·      Develop family support services that help parents provide a safe and supportive environment for their LGBTQIA+ youth

  • Identify and implement peer led prevention models

Oversee Family Services Programs including Prevention and Host Homes Programs

·      Primary duties include: supervision of staff, ensuring support and structure are provided for families and youth, ensuring Program Managers are supported and successful

·      Provide leadership and mentoring in Family Services Programs, including mentoring and

facilitation of Program Managers and lead staff

·      Execution of contracts, compliance with funder and contract requirements, and data and service quality to support the contracts.

Other Duties

·      Maintain a high level of commitment to ensuring racial equity in programs and addressing policies based in white supremacy.

  • Provide feedback concerning policy, procedure and compliance in all programs to Senior Leadership
  • Ensure trainings are recorded and tracked to stay in compliance.
  • Respond to community calls, attend community meetings and represent the Agency on behalf of the Senior Director of Programs as needed
  • Support Cocoon House’s commitment to create a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Support Senior Director of Programs in ensuring the agency is using Best Practices and a Trauma Informed Care lens in all work with clients


Qualifications

  • BA Degree in social services or related field and 2+ years relevant experience working with youth and their families preferred; or at least five (5) years’ relevant experience working with youth and their families
  • Program development, implementation and oversite experience
  • Ability to multi-task and negotiate multiple requests
  • Strong knowledge or experience working with agencies or people identified as LGBTQ preferred
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Relate well with youth and staff. Create a welcoming environment free of discrimination, harassment and retaliation.
  • Experience effectively working as part of a team and the ability to lead and mentor team members
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
