About Creative Art Works

Creative Art Works is ("CAW") a 35-year-old nonprofit that improves the lives of thousands under-resourced youth each year through in-school and out-of-school-time classes, community art-making events, and our renowned public art youth employment program. Working in NYC public schools, community centers, juvenile detention centers, parks and libraries, CAW provides dynamic arts experiences for youth who otherwise lack access. Our programs build confidence, unlock a love of learning, and teach valuable technical, developmental, life and job skills, all while creating profound connections between our young constituents, their art, and their communities.

Summary

Creative Art Works seeks dynamic and experienced Teaching Artists for in-person placements during the 2021-2022 academic year, for in-school and out-of-school-time programs. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong professional experience in visual and/or multimedia arts and equally strong experience teaching children, teens and/or young adults. Programs include:

·      Visual Arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media)

·      Multimedia Arts (digital drawing, graphic design, poster-making, character design, filmmaking, animation)

Responsibilities

·      Commit to the duration of the program, and to the artistic process as a vehicle for youth development

·      Collaborate with program and executive management staff to develop curriculum and implement programs

·      Represent Creative Art Works in interactions with program partners and other stakeholders

·      Embrace the role of mentor and model respectful communication with other staff and youth

·      Participate in professional development sessions

·      Deliver accurate and timely documentation; including attendance, evaluations, lesson plans, and time sheets

·      Prepare youth artwork for exhibition/culminating event

Requirements

·      BA/BFA in Visual Arts, Arts Education or a related field

·      Minimum 3 years of experience teaching youth in either school or community-based settings

·      Familiarity with city/state/national learning standards

·      Strong cultural competency skills and comfort/experience in addressing social justice topics and socially-engaged art

·      Passion for Creative Youth Development

·      Strong classroom management skills

·      All employees must be vaccinated for COVID 

·      All Employees must clear NYC’s PETS Background check system

Skills that are a “plus”:

·      Master’s Degree

·      Proficiency or fluency in Spanish

·      Experience teaching remote or hybrid programs synchronously via Zoom or related platform

·      Ability to teach both visual arts and multimedia arts programs

·      Experience in restorative justice and/or workforce development

·      NY Teacher Certification

Pay:

$40-50 per hour for all time: teaching youth, prep & lesson planning, meetings and professional development workshops.

Salary

$40-50 per hour for all time: teaching youth, prep & lesson planning, meetings and professional development workshops.

currently offers Vision, Dental, Emergency Care, Cancer, and Life Insurance.

o Eligibility: you must pay through CAW for at least one payroll prior to

leaving.

o It takes several weeks complete the enrollment process, so please plan

accordingly.

• NYS Sick Time – is accrued at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to

40 hours in a calendar year. Sick time expires with the end of each employment

engagement.

• Commuter Check – an optional pre-paid tax benefit for commuter travel for

eligible employees. Payment for this pre-tax benefit is an auto-deduction for the

1st paycheck of the month, necessitating sufficient earnings.

• 401(k) – Pretax retirement savings, which stays with you for life.

o Eligibility begins at 3 months of employment.

o May include a discretionary employer match. Eligibility for CAW’s

discretionary company match requires 12 months of employment and

1,000 hours worked in a calendar year.

• Flexible Spending Account (“FSA”) – available at no cost to eligible employees.

• Earn a fee of $50/referral for teaching artists and teaching artist assistants CAW

hires.
