The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) is a growing, global nonprofit media organization that is reinventing investigative journalism for the public good. Position Overview

OCCRP is seeking a Senior Accountant who will play a leading role in our accounting team as we scale our financial operations to meet the needs of our growing global footprint. The Senior Accountant will help provide oversight for the accounting function, ensuring the accuracy of the General Ledger and that proper accounting standards are followed. This position will be critical for certifying that all financial data used by other departments is accurate. Candidates with experience working with U.S.-based multinational corporations or NGOs are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable to ensure timely and efficient payment, including invoicing for government contract.
  • Help manage and oversee all accounting platforms.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff on all aspects of OCCRP’s accounting functions.
  • Liaise with other OCCRP staff on all aspects of OCCRP’s accounting functions, as needed.
  • Administer petty cash and credit card accounts, including oversight and audit responsibilities; train new staff on credit card reconciliation procedures.
  • Prepare and submit wire & ACH transfers for approved vendors.
  • Coordinate with external accountants the submission of annual 1099s.
  • Oversee G/L and ensure month-end close is accurate.
  • Oversee purchasing and procurement.
  • Partner with external auditors to complete the year-end audit, including but not limited to preparing audit schedules and assisting auditors with inquiries to ensure compliance.
  • Additional responsibilities as agreed.

Skills, Experience, and Education

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in business or accounting
  • 4+ years nonprofit accounting or bookkeeping experience including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Demonstrated proficiency and interest in working with various databases
  • Single audit management experience
  • Must be able to keep organization matters strictly confidential

Preferred:

  • Management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with multinational NGOs or corporations strongly preferred
  • Experience working with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) preferred
  • U.S. CPA equivalent preferred
