 Position Profile

Position: Communications Director

Location: Fort Worth, Texas (with 10-20% travel)

Reports to: Executive Director

Works with: 4africa US and African Senior Leadership Team

4africa’s mission is to exalt Jesus Christ by restoring and empowering African people to become good stewards of their community and country which is accomplished through three distinct strategies:

 Imparting biblical principles through sustainable clean water and preventive health initiatives (WASH program- Water Access, Sanitation, and Health)

Educating future leaders with a heart for service (Leadership Program)

Exalting Christ and growing His Kingdom throughout the organization and programs utilizing 4africa’s Discipleship Making Movements (DMM) ministry program

4africa needs expanding our external audience and presence through a robust marketing and media campaign that will be heavily focused on raising awareness for the work that we do in Uganda and South Sudan. We view the long-term sustainability of 4africa to be tied directly to industry leading media creation, marketing content, and engaging communications that demonstrates the need and impact being made through 4africa. This role will have to opportunity to create, shape, and deploy the strategies that will define 4africa to outside individuals, potential donors, and current supporters of 4africa.

Responsibilities and Duties:

·       Working directly with 4africa’s leadership team and board of directors to create a three-year plan for external communications, marketing, and campaigns that will initially focus on raising awareness around 4africa, build a following of highly engaged individuals, and differentiate 4africa’s brand in a crowded market place of Christian non-profits.

·       Build unique, multi-year communication/marketing campaigns that effectively demonstrate 4africa’s work while motivating people to invest in transformation with 4africa with a goal of converting potential constituents to 4africa monthly donors

·       Build and lead 4africa’s communications and engagement team to develop and implement content to be shared via digital and traditional media to raise 4africa’s brand awareness and programs

·       Research, understand and deploy current and potential marketing channels for 4africa to engage individuals, influencers, and external parties

·       Responsible for developing, creating, overseeing, and approving all external marketing, communications, and reporting to include:

o  Website maintenance, edits, and updates

o  Email marketing, reporting, donor correspondence

o  Digital and Social Media campaigns, content creation, engagement and analytics

o  Sharable Content including videos, testimonies, and impact stories

·       Establish 4africa’s annual external communications and engagement goals with defined KPI’s that will shape budget, program reporting, and brand presence

4africa’s Responsibilities to Selected Candidate:

·       Invest in building up candidates understanding of 4africa, our work/programs, and set expectations for what success in this role looks like

·       Set strategic goals for candidate by working with candidate to identify, pursue, and deploy a creative communications action plan, marketing action plan, and resource assessment 

·       Provide necessary resources, including budget, capacity, technology, and personnel to achieve large scale awareness and engagement campaigns

·       Demonstrate and articulate 4africa’s model of transformational development to increase passion and involvement of candidate

·       Provide creative marketing firm(s), third-party consultants/contractors, and ability to outsource required needs to meet long-term strategic communication goals


·       Have a passion to grow in their own faith through work and demonstrating the love of Christ while deploying their gifts

·       Energized self-starter that view challenges as opportunities to grow 4africa’s brand

·       Desire to travel to East Africa to meet 4africa’s team, lead trips with donors, and capture stories/content

·       Has a heart for serving others, a desire to grow their understanding of faith-based non-profits with a focus on Africa, and excited to be part of 4africa

·       Understands digital and traditional marketing channels, how to build a grassroots movement through media opportunities, and desires to figure out unique ways to engage people through 4africa’s work

·       Creative aptitude and ability to identify the best way of articulating 4africa to the world 


·       Highly creative mind that can identify, create, and share content across various medians and demographics

·       Excellent writing and communication skills

o  Gifted writer who enjoys crafting engaging communications

o  Strong ability to edit documents for content, structure, grammar, and spelling

·       Bachelor’s degree and 7-15 years’ experience in digital or traditional marketing, strategic communications, or related occupation

·       Passionate and creative personality who can identify innovative ways to develop and continually improve 4africa’s communication of its work and mission

·       Ability to quickly identify areas and opportunities of need, create content/communications that reflects the “need”, and present high-quality content

·       Prepared to “own” projects and see them through from start to finish

·       Accomplished communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

·       Disciplined in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines

·       Holds an understanding of the importance of brand identity and how to uphold brand standards

·       Understands the difference in Branding and Marketing

Systems Requirements:

·       Microsoft Office 365 and associated software applications

·       Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Illustrator, Spark Pages, Lightroom, and Photoshop

·       MailChimp, WordPress, and other communication software programs
