Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school in N.W. Washington, DC, seeks an experienced librarian to manage the daily operations of its Middle School (Grades 5-8) library. The Librarian oversees circulation and reference services, cataloging, subscriptions, and student behavior while generally preserving the library as a productive and welcoming space. He or she will manage a staff of one assistant and work on a daily basis with faculty, students and members of the Information Services team to support the development of traditional and digital literacy. The Librarian also teaches a variety of skills to students, including direct instruction of research skills. The successful candidate will be warm, approachable and able to communicate and actualize a vision of what information services and literacy mean in the 21st century.
An MLS or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as a school librarian and/or Middle School teaching are strongly preferred. Experience as a teaching librarian at the middle school level is strongly preferred.
