The Hunter College School of Education seeks a part-time Front Desk Assistant to support the work of the School. The School of Education enrolls over 3,000 students per year in graduate and undergraduate professional programs in the areas of teacher preparation, counseling, and school leadership, as well as graduate research programs, including CUNY’s only Doctor of Education (EdD). Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs in the Office of Academic & Student Affairs, the Office Receptionist has the following responsibilities:

  • Welcome and support guests and students who arrive in the School of Education main office
  • Provide front line advisement for students with general questions on admissions, registration, graduation and forms
  • Answer and direct phone calls, emails and in-person requests
  • Organize, schedule and cancel appointments for advising staff
  • Coordinate School of Education events calendar and event details, ensuring calendar is accurate and up to date 
  • Support the writing, design and distribution School of Education emails and maintaining communications calendar in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs
  • Problem solve in a fast-paced work environment
  • Provide support to the School of Education staff as needed
  • Support School of Education events

Job Requirements

  • Friendly and helpful manner with excellent customer service skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a variety of students, faculty and staff across a diversity of academic programs 
  • Knowledge of Hunter College and CUNYfirst highly preferred
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially difficult situations and take initiative to request support when needed
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, MS and Mac OS and Google platform. Knowledge of Mail Chimp, Pic Monkey, Trello, and Canva preferred 
  • Clerical or administrative experience preferred
  • 2-year degree required; 4-year preferred
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Hours: 20 hours per week (Monday through Thursday 2pm-6pm, and Friday 12pm-4pm)
