Role

Under the supervision of the Education Director, the School Counselor is responsible for providing counselling sessions to the Children’s Education Program (CEP) students from Grade 1 to Grade 7. The School Counselor will support students’ success through addressing their academic, emotional, personal, and social development needs. The School Counselor will also create a comprehensive counselling program that promotes students’ success and identifies students’ different needs. The School Counselor will communicate with other StARS programs to refer students for psychosocial or legal support.

 

Responsibilities

·        To create a comprehensive school counseling program that works with the objectives and goals of StARS Education Program

·        To communicate and discuss the school counseling program with the Director of Education

·        To collaborate with the CEP coordinator, teachers, and other school senior staff to achieve the goals of the counseling program

·        To assist the primary level students (Grades 1 to 7) individually or in groups in developing academic, personal or social goals and plans

·        To assist unaccompanied and separated students individually or in groups in developing academic, personal or social goals and plans

·        To listen to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social problems

·        To help students process their problems and plan goals and actions

·        To implement an effective referral to StARS Psychosocial and Refugee Legal Aid Programs and follow up

·        To organize workshops to students about related development issues, for example, time management, goals and plans..etc

·        To facilitate and conduct awareness sessions

·        To collaborate with parents or guardians and teachers to assist students with educational and academic planning

·        To provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs

·        To create assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling



·        To provide appropriate information to the Education Program staff related to comprehensive school counseling program

·        To monitor students’ academic performance, behavior and attendance, and assists with appropriate interventions

·        To mediate conflict between students and teachers

·        To conduct meetings with parents and facilitate parent discussion groups

·        To maintain students data related to school counseling activities

·        To collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis

·        To measure results of the school counseling program activities and shares results as appropriate

  • To treat all members of StARS community with respect
  • To maintain professional confidentiality regarding students’ information
  • To report any signs of risk to students and staff to the Education Director immediately, in line with the StARS and Education Department child protection policies

·        To attend meetings and staff trainings as required

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

·        To have a bachelor’s degree in Sociology or Psychology

·        To have two years or more previous experience as a school counselor

·        To be fluent in both oral and written English. Furthermore a high level of Arabic both in oral and writing is required.

·        To have good skills in MS Office

·        To have the ability to effectively manage competing demands


Hours: 40 hours work week (Sunday – Thursday) and other hours as required.
