KIPP DC seeks a dynamic Recruitment & Outreach Manager to take KIPP DC’s recruiting initiatives to the next level. In partnership with the Associate Director of Recruitment & Outreach and Senior Director of Recruitment, the Recruitment & Outreach Manager will be responsible for supporting, planning, developing, and executing on recruiting strategies, including sourcing top of funnel talent, knowledge sharing best practices with the greater recruitment team, and partnering with both external and internal stakeholders.

The Recruitment & Outreach Manager is an exempt position and will report to the Associate Director of Recruitment & Outreach, and work closely with a team of diverse, committed, and motivated recruitment team members.


Building a diverse and talented pipeline (50%)

Event & Program Management 

  • Lead the referral bonus program including developing a strategy and implementing it in order to encourage staff to refer qualified candidates to KIPP DC 
  • Plan and execute recruitment events (virtual and in-person) that target diverse and talented prospects, including monthly webinars, professional development opportunities, and networking events 
  • Develop goals for our outreach efforts, track against these goals and report to the KIPP DC talent team to communicate progress and identify areas of opportunity
  • Maintain data integrity in KIPP DC’s applicant tracking system, SmartRecruiters, so we can accurately assess our outreach goals 
  • Manage and maintain job boards and ensuring that they are up to date 
  • Manage KIPP DC’s Lead Teacher Internal Application Process to ensure that current talent at KIPP DC has a smooth process that balances consistency and equity

Prospect Management

  • Manage candidate relationships from the initial point of contact to application completion
  • Conduct cultivation calls with prospects to convey key points about KIPP DC, answer questions, and provide support with next steps in preparing for the application process 
  • Source and send InMails to quality candidates through LinkedIn & Handshake, ensuring a strong response yield, and communicate with directly to candidates in a timely manner 
  • Lead email outreach to prospects including managing the monthly recruitment team e-newsletter

Lead and manage university recruitment (15%)

  • Set, internalize, and communicate a bold vision and direction for priority universities’ recruitment strategies
  • Create and manage university career fair calendar, including representing KIPP DC at career fairs
  • Identify and build relationships with key stakeholders within priority university campuses including top leaders, faculty, careers service office officials, student leaders
  • Leverage these stakeholders and work alongside colleagues to plan and execute high-quality events, conduct individual meetings, and utilize other strategies to compel students to apply to the Capital Teaching Residency
  • Build strong relationships with prospects and individualize on-going cultivation strategies based on the prospect’s experience and background to ensure they complete the application process
  • Utilize Handshake to cold source and highlight events on the website to current college students 

Build and maintain partnerships (35%)

External Partnerships:

  • Oversee and build relationships with external partners that support our efforts to build a more diverse KIPP DC at all levels, including, but not limited to Teach For America, POSSE
  • Host events for candidates from those mission-aligned organizations
  • Debrief with points of contacts periodically to improve our ongoing relationship
  • Build and maintain relationships with our biggest online recruitment partners (e.g., LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc.)
  • Seek new organizations to partner with that would contribute diverse, mission aligned applicant prospects

Internal Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Recruitment & Outreach to fundamentally rethink how recruiting is executed and build investment from the recruitment team
  • Partner with key stakeholders (including but not limited to Director of Recruitment, Director of Talent Development, Associate Director of HR, Associate Director of Instructional Hiring, Chief Academic Officer) to determine future talent needs and set and drive outreach strategies to fit those needs 
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop ideal candidate profiles to drive recruitment strategies
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to create compelling branded materials, events and campaigns

Other Recruitment Team Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date with trends in education and in recruitment, and bring fresh and innovative ideas to the work
  • When possible, seize opportunities to interact directly with students, families, or staff members to build connections at the school level and to contribute to the success of our schools and programs
  • Serve as a thought partner for teammates across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain operational systems to manage complex projects and report progress across to key stakeholders.
  • Participate and facilitate sessions at quarterly Recruitment Team retreats



  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous recruitment experience, event planning or marketing experience (ideally, at least 3 years of experience) strongly preferred
  • Previous teaching experience or experience working in nonprofits strongly preferred 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed; experience in K-12 education strongly preferred
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to take initiative, receive feedback, and seek out creative ideas
  • Excellent time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done 
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage and execute projects at a high level
