REAL Kids, an award-winning sports-based youth development and education program founded by DREAM, formerly known as Harlem RBI, is seeking dynamic individuals to serve as Group Leaders for an expansion location in Newark, NJ. 


REAL Kids program offers a unique and supportive environment focused on enhancing youth engagement in reading and learning while building life skills in nutrition and fitness, critical thinking, teambuilding and leadership. 


Summer Day Camp Group Leaders work with a team of 15-18 youth, partnering with teachers and instructors to guide youth through all Day Camp academic, enrichment and sports activities. 



Collaborate with co-leaders to facilitate lesson plans that focus on helping youth build social-emotional skills in areas such as teamwork, conflict resolution and self-esteem;

Serve as an assistant teacher, helping to implement daily reading activities in an innovative literacy program intended to improve reading skills and enthusiasm for reading;

Coach and organize baseball/softball teams for teams of Kindergarten and 3rd grade participants;

Lead recreational activities and chaperone off-site enrichment field trips;

Supervise and manage team and individual behavior at all times using positive discipline techniques and proactive interventions to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all youth;

Participate in training, professional development and tactical meetings.


Must be at least 18 years of age;

College-involvement: current student or graduate of a 2 or 4 year institution/vocational program;

Knowledge of baseball/softball is preferred but not required;

Experience working with groups of children;

Passion to work in a team environment and meet high expectations for youth and staff;

Ability to take initiative while maintaining confidence, flexibility and enthusiasm;

Deep embodiment of DREAM’s organizational values of teamwork, diversity, integrity and fun.


The summer season commitment is from early July-August 10th with 5 additional training days before the start of program. Service hours are typically Monday – Thursday from 8:00am-5:00pm and Friday from 8:00am-3:00pm. 



Summer Day Camp Group Leaders earn an hourly wage starting at $14/hour.
