The Position

Reporting to the Climate Finance Director, the Senior Climate Finance Strategist position is responsible for implementing our climate finance campaign strategy in the USA and coordinating the coalition Climate Safe Pensions Network. This position is responsible for driving and implementing campaign strategy, communicating through traditional and digital channels with key audiences, coordinating with allies and partners and movement building with frontline community organizations. This position will work closely with the communication and digital teams, and must have a strong interest and/or commitment to’s values.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and adjusted based on location, but will likely be within the range of $65,000 to $80,000 USD.

This role will be based in the USA. At least to start with, the role will be remote from the comfort of the candidate's own home. Once the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, we hope there will also be the option to work out of one of our hub offices.

Key Responsibilities of this role:

●     Work with team and coalition partners, particularly those in the Climate Safe Pensions Network, to create strong campaigns to expose significant investments in fossil fuel companies, mobilizing people power to drive divestment from city and state pension funds

●     Develop the Climate Safe Pensions Network into an effective and collaborative coalition that advances fossil fuel divestment campaigns

●     Build effective local leadership on divestment strategies and targeted shareholder engagement through multiracial and multigenerational coalition building

●     Manage relationships with partner organizations allies and coordinate relevant activities and events

●     Serve as one of’s spokespeople on the Climate Finance campaign in the USA for media and develop campaign communications strategies and supporting materials

●     Develop and execute online and offline organizing tactics that support and achieve the campaign’s goals and objectives, including the recruitment of supporters online and offline

●     Develop communications that engage our online community, build our base and get noticed in the media

●     Build relationships with and manage relevant staff, interns, and volunteers according to Stand’s guiding principles 

Who you’ll be:

●     5-7 years of working in the environmental and/or social justice campaigns sector

●     Experience organizing and supporting networks of activist groups with resources, strategies, trainings and campaign planning

●     Experience with stakeholder management and developing relationships and trust with partner organisations who work across a diverse range of issues, regions and audiences and have differing levels of campaign experience

●     Experience with multiracial movement building, including supporting BIPOC-lead organizing and centering Indigenous and other frontline communities in campaigns

●     Experience leading fossil fuel divestment or finance campaigns.

●     Deep understanding of the drivers of climate change and the financial systems and pillars that enable fossil fuel companies.

●     Demonstrated success leading online and offline campaigning and citizen mobilizing strategies and tactics

●     Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget

●     Highly organized, flexible, creative, able to prioritize multiple tasks, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and ever changing environment

●     Independent, driven and self-motivated

●     Digital and media savvy – familiar enough with this campaigning landscape to identify rapid response opportunities and propose smart digital and media tactics to respond to these moments

There isn’t a formal educational requirement for the role, and there will be opportunities for learning and professional development.

In addition, it’s nice but not essential for you to have some of the following skills or experiences:

●     Additional language skills, particularly in Spanish

●     Basic material production (graphics and/or video) for social media

●     Experience with Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training

●     Experience working with and lobbying elected officials including engaging in high level negotiations with decision makers

●     Expertise building and executing national or international level strategic campaigns
